Default replacing top on a '99 vert-help replacement top needed

Hey all,

I have a '99 vert that has a nasty looking tear in the drivers side door corner where the door glass has been cutting into the top every time the door gets opened or closed. I am under the impression that a new top of a later model will fix this problem. Does anyone know about this? Will it fit? Will it fix the problem? I understand that chevy redesigned the top to eliminate this problem. Do I have any recourse? How much will this cost me?

thanks

I have had 2 1999 vert's, it's always been just a side glass adjustment for me to stop the rubbing.

It is now beyond adjustment. My top is ruined. Any ideas?

Get the new top and adjust the glass to it.

thanks, but really I'm looking for some more informed opinions than "replace it".

I understand from a previously read article that in 2000 the top was redesigned so that this problem was eliminated. Does anyone have an input regarding this?

If it's ruined, does it not need to be replaced?

Regardless of a "new improved top", the glass must be adjusted, that's why the glass is adjustable, but hey.... good luck.

I have a '98 vert and the fabric is a little frayed on the driver side - back edge top corner. Looking at later models the fabric is different - much farther back (away from the glass). On close inspection, mine is not the window adjustment - it fits fine in the rubber seal and tilting or lowering the height it goes up is only going to make my window leak. I have found some top adjustment tips to pull the fabric back with the bows but have not yet dove into the project. So I guess the short of it is - adjust the top (new one) may be a better approach then adjusting the glass. You may want to look at it closely before you pull it off.

I do not have the info here at the office but I do know the 99 vert top is a 3 layer top ,I have one, and they went to a 5 layer top in, I think, 01.

I have seen a few for sale in the parts section but not very often.

Contact Bob at Fichtner Chevy for the best price on a new top and then have it installed at a trim shop that has done it before.
You can call him at 406-628-4618; or 800-234-5284 or email him at parts@fichtnerchevrolet.com.

Go to the very bottom of the sponsors list on the left of the page under Used Parts. Might find one there for a good price.

I had a similar problem but caught it fairly quickly. I was able to put some super glue on the frayed part which, after adjusting the tip in of the window, solved my problem. Sounds like yours is further along.

Good luck in your search.
