Of course, if you want maximum gains you should tune after every performance mod. The only issue is cost. Many recommend waiting until all of your mods are complete in order to save costs on tuning. You will be running rich after your headers are installed. You will be able to squeeze out more hp by optimizing your Air/fuel ratio among other things. Enjoy your headers, I love the mean sound.

The good thing about getting it dyno-tuned is you can post the results and we can pick-apart your performance increases and start another heated debate about the virtues of different header brands.

Not to mention the manipulation of dyno parameters to produce inflated results.

I gained about 18hp with a dyno tune. I had LG long tube, catbacks, and a vararam. In my pictures it has my dyno run before and after the tune.

You should have it tuned to get the maximum power gains from the headers.

On my 02 coupe MN6 I installed the LG LT pro with X pipe, no cats, no muffler (straight pipe), the Vararam, and never went for tuning.
I had the the check engine light on since the LG.
My Dyno show 356RWHP and 377RWTQ.
Fllowing this number I'm not sure the dyno that will cost $500 will give me a lot of more. Except removing the check engine light.
The AF ratio is also very good.

How long did it take you to install the LG's and how much trouble was it?

I will say 20 hours. I use "LS1 howto" it is great.
The only real problem was to raise the car more than 20".
I lost at least 2 hours to do this and a good hour to have the headers to go through. Except this everything is well documented and easy.

I higly recommend to coat them it will remove some heat especially around the spark plug wires.

It took me about 8 hours working at a normal pace to install them. I have a little experience working on the car though.

I had no experience working on the engine compartment before on this car.
I had the problem to optain the 20" lift.
I did it in three weeks working 1 to 2 hours at a time.
Thus explain why the total is 20.
If you start early in the morning and have evrything prepare (read LS1 how to 3 to 4 times before)I think you should be able to be done by the evening

I wouldn't bother with the tune for right now. Wait untill you get some more serious type mods before spending those $$, as mentioned above.
Congrats on your install!

Congrats! I love mine too and esp the sound and torq below the curve. Same mods here too. My tune didn't make huge gains in peak, but, the gains below where very nice, like over 40FTLBS Congats again!

I just did an LGM install myself, about 3 weeks ago. Best mod yet! I will be having the car tuned at the end of April to get the most gains. If this is your last mod for a year or so then I'd go ahead and get it tuned, if you can swing it.

Here's are my posts regarding my LGM install:

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1057322
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1067338

After my header install the car wound up running slightly rich (12.7) and the PCM is detecting detonation (knock;false or not). Because of this my post-header install peak dyno numbers were only 334rwhp/354rwtq. The torque gains in the lower RPMs are awesome however! I'm hopeful that tuning will take care of the knock issues and push me into the 350rwhp/365rwtq range.

Funny, I had Lou's guys put mine on, with X-Pipe, Borla 4 tip stingers and the WCC Hurricane ram-air system, and I saw 38 RWHP after tuning (Bull S%^&) and I was extremely lean (around 14.1) so I took it to another buddy of mine (closer to Keller) and we flattened out the dyno results, enriched the air fuel mixture and I actually lost some RWHP, but gained a little torque.

Allot of guys have said the same thing about LG, but all being said, I DO LOVE MY LONGTUBE HEADERS and I wouldn't change the combo I'm running for anything. I think I will stick with my buddy tuning my car from now on though. he doesn't blow smoke up my a$$.

Regards, Bryan
