I know there is a service bulletin for '97 models on this, apparently the spring in the latch needs to be changed. However, my 2004 Vert has the same problem: hit the trunk release, and it opens about 1/4", and you need to pry it open from the corners.
So, has that problem been fixed by GM on later models? Anyone else with this snag? Do I just need to adjust my latch height? As always, thanks for your help, luv y'all!
I'm not sure if you can adjust it or not. Why not just take it to the dealer and let them repair it under warranty. I suppose if you try to fix it yourself, and make the problem worse, it could void that part of the warranty. Might be just a lubrication problem too.
From: From San Diego to Bentonville, AR.....WTF was I thinking?!? Oh yeah, that free state thingy!

Had the exact same thing with my 2003 vert. Tried the dealer and their adjustment did nothing. Then I read on this forum to spray some WD-40 on the latch mechanism. Fixed the problem right away. Been nine months and not a problem since.

Had the same problem, just went out, sprayed lubricant, problem solved. Wish all my problems were this simple
I had the same problem as well. After spraying silicone lubricant (probably leftover breast implants in a can for all I know) down in the latch area, the problem went away.
hmmm...maybe I should have tried some lubricant. I've been popping the latch on my trunk and then shut my car door (windows up) which uses internal air pressure to pop the lid open.
Reminds me of the Blonde joke. She goes to the auto body shop and asks about having a dent removed. The mechanic, busy at the time, told her to just go home and put her lips around the tailpipe and blow really hard. So she went home to give it a try but it wasn't working. Her friend drove up (another Blonde) and inquires what in the world her friend was doing down on her knees blowing on her exhaust pipe. So the first one explained what she was instructed to do but that it wasn't working. The second one says: "Ohhh silly, you have to roll the windows up for that to work!"
