Has anyone simply gone out to home depot and bought grade 8 bolts for lowering the rear section of the car? I just dont see the point to pay $30 plus shipping for two bolts and washers. There must be a cheaper way to do this.
Besides being grade 8 bolts, what are the specs of the bolts? How long should they be? Any special thread pattern? thanks
I went to home depot and did exactly what you are talking about, worked GREAT! Don't remember the length of the bolts though, I just measured someone's aftermarket ones and matched the size.
1/2"-13 x 6.5" long will work fine. 7" long will also work, and offer even more lowering range.
I have 6.5" and they are almost maxed out. I only have about 4 threads visible above the nut. If you go to 7" bolts, you'll want to tighten the nuts more to get in the same ballpark.
Locknuts are also a good idea. And simply reuse your stock bushings as-is when you swap the bolts, no need to cut them.

Home depot doesn't carry any bolts over 6 inches long. You eaither have to get them at local hardware store or go to lowe's they have them there
I would go 7-7 1/2 inches, just to have the extrra threads
