Default Suspension Help needed...

Hello, & Thank's for coming in and offering advice ! My Problem ? I need to eliminate a serious case of wheel hop at the drag strip. My '99 FRC just blows the tire away in 1st & 2nd, and it even wheel hops in 3rd ! I am running a DTE rearend girdle, DTE 4.10's, and Nitto 555's. In it's current state of tune, my car is making 389 rwhp/380 rwtq.

Wow wish I could help. I've been around here a pretty long time and not seen any conclusive moves to eliminate wheel hop. All I can share is my experience.

I had a stock '01 FE1 and until recently a stock '04 FE1 suspension. Both had wheel hop. On the '04 I've recently gone to Z06 springs and bilsteins and wheelhop seems gone.

I have stock MN6 gears, putting down ~320 on Kuhmo MXx, 295s. So, with this setup, the springs/shocks/Kuhmos work well.

But honestly, with my near stock power and the 295s out back, I get very little wheelspin anymore if any, so I have no idea at all whether this will help.

Also, I noticed a significant reduction in squat upon acceleration, so in the end this may hurt drag racing times. Don't know.

Sorry for the long reply, hopefully something I said helps.

Try lowering it some, My car doesnt wheel hop, I lowered it 2" and put Blistiens on and It hasnt done it, but then again that was one of my very first mods. Just my 2 cents. Maybe this will help. Good Luck!

Default Thank's Fella's...

My Buddy (99theHardWay) had suggested this as a possible remedy, as he is in the same boat as I ! That would be an option for him, however, I am running a 295/45/18 tire on the rear, so unless I buy some new, stock size tires, I don't have room to lower the car. I was wondering if anybody knows of a stiffer ratio rear spring ? Or possibly, does anyone out there manufacture a set of shocks for drag racing C5's, like the old 90/10's you uesd to be able to buy ? Thank's,

Steve.

I thought that poly bushings in the rear suspension was supposed to help this problem.

Default Different bushing's ?

Hey Guy's, & "Thank's" for the input !
I haven't seen any discussions about changing bushings as a possible remedy, does anybody out there have before & after experience with this ? Steve.

play with the tire pressure. Maybe drop it down to 15psi.

Heavier transverse springs may help, but you still need to harness some of that energy. If you have adjustable shocks you my want to try softening the compression (decrease bump rate)just a little, and slow down the rebound rate. This would seem to be consistent with the two replays that have switched to bilsteins, which I suspect are the HD’s. And for drag race setup I believe they do just the opposite up front, this would keep the big meats in the rear digging…

Default Thank's Klem....

Klem, thank's for the input, I also forgot to mention that my car has "Active Handling" so I don't know if I can actually swap in some adjustable shocks, even though that appears to be my next step in an attempt to eliminate this problem ! i was on TBryne's website, and saw a nice set of adjustable shocks for what seemed a good price. My buddy has an '01 Z and he is making the same HP, and he did just install a set of Bilstein HD shocks, and he still experienced the same problem with massive amounts of wheel hop.

Steve:That is where dual adjustable shocks come in handy. You can soften the compression and slow rebound to keep the *** end low! You should give Mark Stein a call at Motor Sport Image . He sets up racecars, and he has all the parts you need for your vette. He has been very helpful to me in the past and is currently helping me with my auto-X setup.

Tell him that I referred you to him,
Karl

Hope this helps……………
