Hi I have read the sticky, and I just want to ask this question to make sure I do not cuase any more damage. Yesterday is the first time i got the message "Pull Key and wait 10 secs" After doing this thinking it was some anti theft thing, I started the car, and found out my steering column was locked. I was then prompted with the message "Steering column lock" I called a family member at home, who looked up on the net to turn the key to the first stage on the right, not starting it and not starting the radio and lights. I jerked the wheel left to right hard then turned off the car then started it, it unlocked after a few trys. Today the same thing has just happend again. If this keeps happening and I keep fixing it the way I am, is it going to cause damage.
Also in the sticky I read that it may be anti theft thing, can some one tell me if it is, and how to avoid this in the future. Thx

The only way to "fix" your problem is to install a CLB if the car is a M6 or have the recall fix done if your car is a A4. One of thses days the shaking and hitting will not work and you'll be forced to call a wrecker....
Its a M6, Now it is going to keep doing it more, and more untill it does it all the time, by me doing this. Also one of the stickys said a low battery will cause this so I think im going to change out my battery, and go from there, thx for the help guys.

My $0.02, have your battery checked before replacing it...order the CLB right now...no matter the state of your battery
Please don't be confused....your situation is NOT a security issue, but is a failing ECL. You are living on borrowed time. Get the CLB installed while you can still do so without tearing your steering column apart to unlock it. As far as your battery goes, make sure it is putting out at least 11.5 Vdc without the engine running or have it replaced. Good Luck

If or when this ever happens to me I am going to bring it back to my local G.M. dealership and tell him to fix it. If it happens again I will do the same thing. I will do this over and over again until it gets fixed. I will not pay 1 friggin penny to have this issue resolved. If everyone did this the problem would forever be resolved. -Bob

The only problem is the dealer "fix" or recall for the MN6 does not really fix the column lock problem..all it does is tell the computer to shut down the fuel supply to the engine...it will not prevent the column from locking The only REAL fix is to install the CLB kit (sold by many vendors on the fourm)..now some people have had the dealer install the CLB or installed The CLB and then GM reimbursed them later...

When this happenned to my first Z06(2001) I called the dealership and they called a towing service to deliver it to them. The towing bill was $85.00 which I assume was payed by G.M. If it happens to me again on my 2002 Z I will do the same thing and they will pay the towing bill every time it quits. When they get tired of paying for towing maybe they will fix the problem. If it sounds like I have an attitude about this it's because I have. I almost want the g.d. thing to lock up so I can start bitching at them again. This problem is inexcusable for any car much less a $50,000 corporate flagship. Bob
Bob- I hear ya , I know it's frustrating the whole column lock has a majority of the C5 corvette folks(at least on the forum here) baffled and pizzed off that GM would let this happen and not have a good common sense fix, especially to their flagship car. There have been thousands of posts on the forum about it.
Sometimes I wonder what would happen if nonone would have invented the CLB (column lock bypass kit)
I would just recommend that you get the CLB installed, even though the dealer keeps paying for your tow and repair, you are still without your car and it takes up your time to have to deal with this hassle everytime if/when it locks up
