Default Ambient air temperature sensor question..

Does anyone know if the ambient air temp. sensor has anything to do with the hvac system? My ambient air temp sensor is reading 45 degrees when the actual temperature is 82 degrees. Would this cause the system to try and warm the interior of the car or is the system dependant on the return air sensor near the ignition? The compressor and refrigerent levels/pressures are all fine, but it's still blowing warm. It's as if the system is trying to compensate to the low ambient reading and is adding warm air. This system is crazy...

Both factor into play in order for the whole system to function correctly.

Bad News the ambient air tempeture sensor is probably bad . Good news the part is only about $16.00. It is located on the bottom right inside radiator shroud. It can be acessed without jacking the car up. If it is bad your HVAC system will not turn on because it uses the outside temp. to regulate the inside temp. This happen to me where it constantly read in the low 30's and the compressor would not turn on. make sure you clean the electrical connector with contact cleaner, these sensors go bad because they are exposed to the elements. Once you change it out you need to go for a drive for it to register in the computer. It needs air flow to do this. Good Luck

GM Temp Sensor Part # 10248414 Cost $16.60 at my local Chevy Dealer.
