Default Weird Security Warning Light Happenings - Ideas?

Started car yesterday afternoon (hot in car....@ 95-100 F maybe), security light on dash remained on. Based on past experience, didn’t want to pull out and have the car stall, so shut ‘er down, pulled key, waited 5-10 secs., restarted, and no security light on dash. Hmmmmm.

This morning, driving into work, after 15 or so miles look down and the security light is illuminated. I’m going 45 mph at the time, so I just finish the last 6 miles of my drive and pull in and park. Shut her down, pull key, then for S&Gs, restart her. After all the dash warning lights go through the motions, they all turn off, including the security light.

Guess I'll check the chassis grounds to see if they might be crapped up. Other than that, anyone have any ideas of what could be causing this to occur. Sure hate the thought of getting stranded in the Smoky Mts outside cell phone range.

Either or both of the key (pellet) or ignition switch contacts (to pellet) may need cleaning.

Yeah, been there, done that.....but the security light should come on at start-up, not while cruising down the road. Thanks for the idea, though

Same condition for both keys? Switch itself could be defective.

Default Ghost in the machine!

Well, found out yesterday after work it has something to do with the key or switch. Had to sit a couple of minutes waiting for the security system to clear before I could try the key a second time and get it to crank. Both keys read same resistance, but one key seems to work better. I'll be cleaning the contacts in the switch again and keeping my fingers crossed. GM sure has problems with their security measures (column lock and pellet (VATS?) system)!
