A very reputible vett tech that has been mentioned several times on this forum gave me this suggestion after i took my car in for a ticking sound and a incocistant stuble in the idle.
He said to spray some Top Engine Cleaner up on of the vacuum lines or in the intake to decorbonize and clean all the crap off the valve and heads....
Im having problems finind a good source for it and most people dont know a damn thing about it....
It's a GM product available at your Chevy dealer. Makes a mess... check your service writers price. I had my 01 treated @ 33,000 miles and it helped. I track my car... a LOT, and the top end cleaner still... HELPED !!!
I tried several products and ended up getting the best results from Seafoam. Napa and O'Reilly carries it. Cheap, about 6 bucks and change. Buy two.
This is what I did, since I didn't have anyone to keep the rev up in the car while I pour (the wife has better things to do !!)....get a long length of 3/8 inch hose, enough to go from the PCV port (vacuum side) all the way into the car from the passenger window. At the end of the hose, I got one of those red plastic pipes from a wd-40 can and duct taped it to the end. Start the car, make sure its at operating temp, and stick the red tip into the seafoam can. rev up just enough so you don't stall. When you get down to the last 2 inches in the can, remove the red plastic tip and suck it all in as fast as it will go - and STALL OUT. Then put everything back in order and relax for a few hours.
When you start it, it will be VERY ROUGH. And as described above, your neighbors will not like the smokescreen you create, so get outta town! Blow out all the crap in there and next day, you will enjoy a "Like new" feel to your motor.
Throw the 2nd can in the gas tank on your next fillup. Enjoy.
Yes, that's what I got. I had my 2001 Z06 into the dealer to get the pinging my engine makes on any fuel less than 93 octane attended to. Dealer says your heads are all carboned up, and wants to clean the heads using the top end cleaner. Well, I did not think this was the cause and told him so. Why should I spend $200 for something that I believe will not fix the car. He said, I put my faith in my technicians and they say it is carboned up. If they fix it, you pay my price and if they do not fix it, there will be no charge. Deal, says I.
Well, two treatments of TOP End cleaner later, the engine still pings. The dealer reflashed the ECU with the latest programming and still no fix.
Next time I need to have the dealer throw in the oil change after the TOP End cleaner. I did that one myself. Remember that some of that stuff will find its way to the oil pan, and it definitely does not lubricate like Mobil One.
I was in a NAPA store recently and saw that they have a couple types of "Seafoam." The one that came in quart sized bottles was Seafoam auto transmission treatment. Is the the right stuff to use? I couldn't find any Seafoam that clained to be "top end" cleaner. The counter guys were no help. Thanks.

Trans Tune is not the same thing. You want motor treatment; see link:
Ah, I sea the foam now! Thanks. A lot of auto parts countermen really don't know much about cars these days. They use the company's computer to find a part; that's about all most are good for.
