I recently purchased an electrochromic mirror off of ebay for my '98 Vette. I was thinking that one of the four wires to my existing mirror would lose power when the car was off. However, I've found that this is not the case. There are 4 wires Black, Brown, Orange, and Orange. When I connect my volt meter to the black ground wire and either one of the orange wires I get a 12v reading whether the car is on or off. There is also a brown wire but it reads like .07v or something weird like that. Does anyone have the schematics or no what I could be doing wrong? Thanks, any help would be appreciated. I hope I don't have to run another wire from the stupid fuse box just for this.

This site gives instructions for installing the mirror on an older c5. I did it on my 2000 with no problem. You need a connector which is listed in the site and I got from Fred Beans.
At night, the mirror has a dimming feature which is about the same as tilting the mirror with a lever in a conventional mirror. Is this a major advantage? Probably not. But it works well.
i dont have one myself, but i believe when a car with bright lights gets behind you, the mirror senses the light and dims it the way the lever would on a conventional mirror.
Yea that's exactly what it does. It has a sensor on the front and a sensor on the back. The one on the mirror side will determine if there is a car with bright lights on behind you and the mirror will turn itself dark blue. The sensor in the back determines if it is day time or night time.
The link to the DIY from this site is dead on. You need the new Harness. The mirror works when the lights are on. The map lights work at anytime. The nice orange mood light also works only when the lights are on. Follow the wiring change in the DIY and you'll have no problems. PM me if you need more help.
