Default Slave Cylinder problem for the C6

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...8&forum_id=101

that pretty much explains my story. i was told by a lot of guys in that forum that some C5 owners have had to replace their slave cylinders and such, and i was wondering if anyone could help me out with that. im not really sure if the C6 is any different from the C5 as far as the slave cylinder goes, or what is involved with each, but im looking for any help i can get atm.

another thing - my mechanic seems to believe that we MIGHT be able to fix my clutch problem without actually changing/replacing the entire slave cylinder, and just by replacing the line that burnt up. even if this is the case, we're still unsure as to how to bleed the clutch lines to make sure the clutch works properly. im guessing that its something similar to bleeding the brakes on a car, but i dont know if anything is different or not.

any information here would be GREATLY appreciated. im in a bit of a mess right now, and i could use all the help i can get

thanks
phil

My slave cyl died and i had to replace it. Almost left me stranded. I did the job myself, replaced clutch, flywheel, and 3rd gear synchro while i was in there.

Might try contacting Rodney, "Crashed 94" on the board.

If its the same as a c5 you can scroll through my pictures and see the slave cylinder and where it mounts to the torque tube. The line is held in with a dowl pin you you cant take it out without removing torque tube, that is if its like the c5?

Sounds to me like the clutch fluid drained when compromised which disabled the clutch. Replacing the slave cylinder is no fun but it sounds like you and your uncle have the facilities to do it. Unfortunately, there's no easy shortcut for the job so you'll need to pull the torque tube to get to it.

I looked up the slave cylinder change procedure in my 2005 manual and it's almost identical to the C5's procedure. I can email it to you if you send me a valid email address.

Here's a pictorial of a drivetrain removal a buddy and I did on his C5.

Also, consider adding LAPD's remote clutch bleeder line like the one pictured below to make future clutch bleeds easily done by just lifting the hood. It's the line with the red fitting.

Damn, thats the second reported C6 that had a problem with Dynatech Headers touching that hydraulic line and burning a hole in the line .

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...50&forum_id=74

I hope you get it fixed, but I would write the folks at Dynatech a strongly worded letter concerning this. I would make my displeasure known. No reason for you to plan on installing headers and then end up having to remove your drivetrain after following their installation instructions.

oh i intend to write them a VERY heartfelt message concerning this. especially since im not the only one that it has happened to.

looks like so far ill have to spend about $200.00 for the new slave cylinder from the dealer, as well as new O2 extenders, since the one of them burnt up as well.

im having a bit of trouble finding the O2 extenders, so if anyone can point me in the right direction as to where i can get them, that would be great
