Default Broken Piston Lands

Hi,

I just pulled my 2001 LS1 engine apart last night to replace the two rings per GM bulletin due to substantial blowby in last two weeks. Performed a Leak Down test prior to disassembly and found Pistons # 3, 5 and 7 to be leaking from 85 and holding at 30. Car was running well performance wise, but using a little more oil.

Anyway, removed pistons and found broken Lands on # 3, 5 and 7. (all 3 lands broken on 7) I purchased this car in December at an auction, so I do not really have any history on it. It has an ATI Procharger, headers and some other mods and 38,000 miles on it.

The pistons are MAHLE forged aluminum and my question is about the order of the compression rings. All the pistons had the ring with the "dimple" as the second ring and I thought the dimple ring should be the top ring. Does anybody know anything about this that could help with this problem. Thanks for any help.
