If you have a K&N type cleaner, that will suffice.
Basically, you want to spray on the cleaner, uses a light brush to get any thick residue off the filter. Spray with water, don't use a high pressure as you can damage the filter, liberally spray the cleaner and water. Let 'er dry naturally, don't use any heat or air dryers and then spray with a liberal amount of oil which should be provided in the kit.

I would also recommend doing this at night and letting the filter drain the oil away away. I rested mine on its nose and noticed that the "liberal amount of oil" I put on may have been too much, because some dripped away.
This helps avoid problems that could be caused by the oil getting on to the MAF....

[J. Nguyen]Hmm... Good question..
I would like to know this too.. Since I've never cleaned mine yet either.

I also have a blackwing, after 2 years it's still in the green. It's a micro fiber filter, I have read that you can clean it with "simple green" and water. Hang out to dry, and reinstall. I'm not sure about spraying it with oil, I don't think it's neccessary. BUT....I could be wrong

This is very good advice. Easy on the water pressure though. Just a nice stream is all that's needed. Done mine twice now. Also, it is very easy to over oil. If you think you may have over-oiled, you can stuff a bunch of clean white cloths into the inside of the filter and let it sit overnight (or at least a few hours). Try to make as much surface area contact with the clean cloth as possible. What you want is a nice even blue color that is not wet. HTH

you need to buy the official cleaning kit for the blackwing. any vendor who sells the filter can get you a box. instructions are included!
Just did mine last week. car runs nicer!
And I would add one more piece of advice. Don't wait for the indicator to tell you when to service it. Do it once a year or more if you're in a dusty climate.
