Compass Mirror?
Hello All,
I have a 99 and I want to retrofit a rear view mirror with a compass. Has anyone done this, suggestions as to replacement mirror brands and wiring tips?

The mirror from a C6 can be fitted to your C5. There was a thread posted here on the forum a few months ago. I believe you have to purchase a harness from your local GM parts dept. to make it work.

The mirror from a C6 can be fitted to your C5. There was a thread posted here on the forum a few months ago. I believe you have to purchase a harness from your local GM parts dept. to make it work.

Yes, I installed an electrochromatic compass mirror on my '98 about 3 years ago. Believe it was a Donnelley mirror (do a search for their website.). You'll need a new harness w/ a relay built into it. Sorry, I can't remember which vendor I bought it from. The install takes about an hour. It works great--I really like it...Good luck.

Donnelly is probably the best bet, with Gentex close behind. If you don't get a factory mirror, you will need to get a relay and harness to change your negative trigger light to a positive trigger (or vice versa...). This just means that your lights will go on when the doors open and everything will work as normal. I have the relay and harness you need, but I'll be darned if I can find the instructions I used when I put one of these in my old '99...

These install instructions are fine IF you're installing a late year C5 mirror into a older C5. However, if you go w/ the Donnelly or Gentex mirror, as BSiegPaint has noted, you'll need the relay equipped harness for your interior lights to work. Good luck...
