Default Kuhmo ASX

Anyone have the ASX?
This is my daily driver, and just looking for something with tread, as my run flats are shot.
$646.00 tax, mounted & balanced out the door price.

I would spend a little more and get the MX unless you are planning to drive in snow. The all season rating on the ASX gives up a lot of handling compared to the high performance summer tires.

Due to an emergency[we wont talk about] I have one ASX and one Mx on the rear of my 98.Asx has 50% more tread life and so far traction differences have minimal if any.Can still pull a 2.0 60 ft..

Not to get in an arguement but you can really tell a difference on a roadcourse. The ASX has given up and is squealing like a pig while the MX, at the same speed, is just going around the corner with no bother.

Obviously, not everyone races their C5's. My ASX's have a 1000 miles on them and perform great, ride great and are super quiet. If you live at the track, go with MX's since they are popular buys for AutoXing. As for all other types of driving, the ASX's are the best buy. When doing spirited mountain driving, I've found little difference in handling, if any, compared to the GY runflats.

Go with whatever fits your personal needs.
Good luck

I have the ASX on my 98 mn6. They replaced D3 GY, which came with the car, they are not a bad tire, but by no means a high performance tire, sidewalls are not as stiff as the D3 so in turns they do roll a bit. I don't race the car, and relative to what it can do, drive conservatively. I have about 9k the rears look like about 60% (6/32" non acurate) or more tread life left, fronts about 80% left. I actually hoped to get 30K out of the rear tires but may come up a little short.

I went with the ASX because they are more "all-season" and thus are more suited to my needs. The MX will give better dry traction as it is "stickier". I would think the ASX would perform better in wet or snow (God forbid)! Tires are given wear ratings by their manufacturer. Although there are some differences between brands, the basis for this rating is the same for tires of the same make. The lower the number, the softer (or stickier) the tire. I believe that the MX has a 200 rating, while the ASX has a 420. Based on this, the ASX will last slightly over twice as long (under the same driving conditions).

There really isn't a right or wrong answer to this issue. Pick the tire that suits YOUR needs and habits.

I have the ASX on my 2000 Coupe. I put them on about 8000 miles ago to replace the stock Goodyear Runcraps.

So far I love them. Ride noise is almost gone except for the burbble of my Corsa's and the occasional rough road surface.

My car is a daily driver with occassional road racing and drag strip trips. Wet weather performance is not even up for discussion. I first realized that I needed to look for tires when I floated across 3 lanes of highway in a turn doing 50 mph. After seeing my life pass before my eyes I decided to get something that would at least attempt to shed the water. These do the job.

In the dry weather they are a solid performer, but by no means are they like Pilot Sports or other performance (summer) tires that are out there.

If your car is a daily driver and is not allergic to the rain, then these tires will make you very happy. Tire Rack has the fronts on sale for $99.

I am considering getting new rims and tires for the summer/ Autocross season. Since these tires are so economical I can actually afford to looking at a second set of higher performance tires for boy racer weekends.

Hope this helps,

Good Luck

Deciding based on cost alone, I really like the Kumho's - either of them. But isn't there a runflat version of the MX? is that the one you are comparing the ASX to?

Just for my own 2 cents, do any of you feel secure without a runflat? Scares the wits outta me, I guess I'm not much of a gambler....I always lose.

Also, living in Texas we have all concrete roads. Damn, tires wear out really fast here. Sounds like the MXs will get killed here.

Only runflats... I'll be damned if I let some Cooter looking tow truck driver hitch my baby up to a tow truck! I can hear the scraping now...

I got my cheri popped being flatbedded home from the dragstrip with about 10k miles on her.

And you're right, it was Joe Freakin' Dirt doing the hauling.

Bought the Kuhmo ASX tires today.

So far, nice ride. My guess is that any tire with tread that doesn't have the shakes like my runflats did will be a great improvement.

$646 is a pretty cheap trial. They look like they'll be great in the rain.

I've got the ASX on mine and while they ain't the best tire out there, they do alright. Far superior to the crappy run flats that were on it.

Default Kumho ASX, more info needed please

Hello,

Here's hopeing that this thread continues a little longer because I was intersted in reading more responses.

I'm interested in these tires for my '02 C5 as well. I'm getting costs all over the place from $700 to $950 mounted and balanced. But I think I found someone that will work with me with if I got the tires from the tirerack.

Anyway, could someone respond here ??

How are these tires wearing on your C5 ???

How about the ride and noise level compared to the RunFlats ???

A little more comments on handeling would be nice.

Any other comments ??

Thanks to all,
c5firstimer

I've had mine on a couple days now. Much quieter. Handles the rain very well.

I bought mine from discount tire installed plus tax everything for $646.00.

I'm very happy with them at this point, but I'm comparing them to worn out runflats...

Looking at the ASX tire for my C5.

Could someone tell me, is the ASX is a directional tire ?? I think it is but haven't read anywhere that it was.

Any further comments about this tire to share ??

Thanks

I have Kumho Ecsta MX's, these are the Runflats and I paid less than $900 from Tire Rack. I'm satisfied with their performance as a daily driver compared to Firestones and GY's.
