My vette shut down. it will start, but will not idle. Acts like it is running out of gas. The first step is to replace the fuel filter. Can anyone tell me where the fuel filter is located on a 1999? I appreciate any help you can give me.
The fuel tanks are just forward of rear wheels, right and left sides. The fuel filter is in the line leaving the tank on the drivers side I believe. I may have that reversed. Anyway if you crawl under the rear end with a light and look up along the frame rails forward of the tanks and you should find it. By the way, I have to change out a filter for a friend and was just going to ask what is involved in this R&R. Do you know?

Dfactor,
The fuel filter on a 99 has to be accessed from under the car. You must lift the car, and drop the left muffler if it’s an automatic. I’d give you the step by step procedure but it’s kind of long and the pictures would help. Can you find someone with a service manual? If not, I can copy the pages and mail them to you. Let me know. BTW, the service manual says there is no service interval for this. You should only replace a restricted filter. – C.

BTW..are you sure it your fuel filter. it sounds like its clogged awfully premature. I have a 99 that I drive daily (63,000 miles) and have not had the slightest hint of fuel filter related trouble.
No, I am not totally sure. Before I take it to the dealer and spend 500.00 or more, (anytime I take it there it's a 500.00 bill), I want to eliminate the small things. I hate to pay someone to do something that I can do. Do you have any other ideas as to what it could be? Acts like it's starving for gas and has an odd smell, like paint or something. No black smoke, so I know I am not running rich. I appreciate your help.
I appreciate your help.
I went under the car last night and found what I thought to be the filter. It was under the middle of the car, in between the two tanks. It had two lines going in and one going out. It also had a ground wire attached. I have replaced several fuel filters on Chevy cars in the past, but have never seen one that looked like what I just described. Am I looking at the wrong part?
Dfactor,
The fuel filter is also a regulator. It has one feed on one end and two on the other. It will be under the driver’s side wheel well. There’s a single bolt that holds it to the frame.
