I have the dynatechs, but I can tell you that the LGs are consistently the best performing headers on the market. Also, the best part is there is no need for O2 simulators anymore because there new design has four O2 sensor bungs. But, they are considerably more expensive than the kooks as well as others. Is a potential 5 rwhp over the kooks worth 500 bucks? that is up to you. If you do want the LGs, I urge you to hold off and follow this thread in the C5 Parts section if you are not already.

A group purchase on LG parts is in the works and could save you some cash.

Can't speak about the Kooks, however I use to have TPIS and the LG's are night and day difference, especially in quality. No leaks. In my opinion, they are the monsters of headers! Good luck, you wont be sorry

I have TPIS, but will switch to LG if I can get a good GP, or set used.

I like the TPIS, but no doubt the LG are better.

If you compare buying LTs, X-pipe, and paying to have off road pipe welded in, the LG are probably not much more $$

I went with used TPIS, and my factory H-Pipe so I save a bunch up front, plus the LGs weren't really available yet.

I've had my LG's on since last August with no problems to date. I will not say that they are the best since I don't have any experience with any other header system. But I can tell you that the worksmanship and fit of the LG's is awesome; they perform as expected, if not better; they made the car sound even better; no leaks; and customer service is second to none. Lou has made an all-around great product. Again, I am only telling you my experience with LG

I've had mine on almost a month now and my car's untuned dyno numbers are 335rwhp/356rwtq. Those numbers are with the LGM high-flow cats, all 4 02 sensors , a Donaldson Blackwing air intake, and a partial torn sparkplug wire.

I've fixed my spark plug wire problem and I'm hopeful my post-tuned results will be in the 350rwhp/360rwtq range. It definitely pulls hard!

Love mine, just put them on a couple of weeks ago. Can't comment on any other headers but I can tell you that between the tune, the exhaust and a VaraRam I gained over 40rwhp.

Edit: the VaraRam doesn't do much for the dyno numbers imo but absolutely kills any other CAI for the track.

I have the LG long tube, 3" x-pipe w/cats.
I was running a 224/224 .563lift cam and LS6 ported heads on stock manifold and Z06 cat-back. HP (374rwhp) was good, right were it should have been, torque was down at 339rwhp. I haven't had the car tuned yet but the headers changed the car in a big way. The torque is were you need it. I was considering KOOKs but thought I would see a better combination with the LG long tube setup.
Just my opinion but if you have a street or road track car the LG setup is best.

Another difference I've seen between the LG LTs and the Kooks is the LGs fit up tighter in the tunnel. The two C5s I'm comparing the Kooks hang out probably 0.5-1 inch lower than the LGs.

The LGs are also probably harder to install (I emphasize "probably" because I havent' done an install), and if you ever need to get into the drivetrain you have to disconnect them at the heads. That's one of the reasons the LGs don't leak.

If I ever put headers on my car it'll be LGs.

Have a good one,
Mike

I think it would be difficult to conclude that the LGM long-tube headers are not excellent for 346 ci cars.

Good one Mark, I had to re-read that one

I've never heard anything bad about Lou's headers, I'm sure you'll like them.

"Better" than KOOKS? I have never owned LGs and I can answer that. No. But I cannot say that "yes" KOOKS are better than LGs either.

Depends on what you want. Is chocolate ice cream better than vanilla?
Is Jack Daniels better than Jim Beam? Is a coupe better than a vert, or an MN6 better than an A4? Is a Mitsubishi TV better than a SONY?

KOOKS tend to make most of their power higher in the RPM band. If you are a drag racer this is key.

The LGs are said to offer more low end torque. If you are a road racer or into auto X that helps

KOOKS headers are on some of the quickest 1/4 mile C5s on this board.

Other factors like cost, come into play as well.

The KOOKS tuck into the tunnel very well. I have heard of no one in either a KOOKS or LGs equipped car at stock height having any problems.

KOOKS and LGs are both stainless and generally do not come coated.

I really like the LG headers. They produce great peak numbers and the power under the curve is excellent. I always find it funny when forum members say something like "Is a potential 5 rwhp over the kooks worth 500 bucks?" with out ever experiencing the header results for themselves. They always seem to forget about the most important aspect of the header results and that is the power and torque under the curve. I have not experienced or seen another brand that makes as much power and torque under the curve as LG headers do. Most of the time LG headers make a lot more then 5rwhp peak over the other brands and the highest hp bolt-on car I have seen has LG headers on it. I really don't care whose headers I have on my car as long as they perform the best. Yeah, the $500 is worth it to me. Isn't that the name of the game? Money = power.

Someone is asking the right questions

$100 per 1 horse power ??

That would make a 150 NOS shot cost $15,000.... humm something to think about.

I have LG's.... the install was pure cake, although I am used to F-bodies.

In my Z06 6th was unusable under 65 now I can cruise in 6th at 55 and when I step on it in that gear it feels like it used to at 65-70... Hope that makes sense. The low end power IS as advertised, I can't wait to tune it next week!

Kooks makes a high quality product its what I ran on my WS6 and will buy those for the wife's vert when I get around to it. But if you just look at the C5 headers and the collectors you can kinda see why LG's seem to have the advantage. These things are LONG I mean really long and the quality is just as good as Kooks (really LG designed them Borla makes them)

Lou has been in the F-bod and C5 world forever not too mention actually race testing his products, and although his prices have always been on the high side when your the best you can do that.
