I just replaced my stock 18 x 9.5 rear wheels with repro Z06 18 x 10.5's. Though I still have my stock size 275's on the rear, I intend to replace them with 295's. The 275's are now too narrow for the rims.
My question is that with my fender now about 2 inches above the tire, it seems that the wider tires might rub over up/down travel. My friends Z06 has this setup stock, but his car sits alot higher. I was surprised to see this tight situation, I thought that this was a pretty mild change.
What have your experiences been with this? Please share.
295 is the stock size for the Z06, 305s will work with no problem and you could squeeze a 315 on that wheel if you wanted to. This is all assuming that the wheel has the stock backspacing. Since they are repos, I'm sure they do.
I've got 295/35-18s on my car right now and there is plenty of room in there
I appreciate your replies, guys. My concern is if the wider tires will travel up into the wheel well without rubbing. I don't want to raise the car at all. It seems that stock, the wheel well is much higher.
Do you still have the stock 17's out front? IRRC 295/35-18's are a tick shorter in diameter. If they are they throw off your TC/AcH. You must maintain a .5 inch diamter difference!!!!!!
Thanks, I'd say you guys about covered it.
295's it is.
You may want to give the 305s another look as they put more rubber on the ground (in Pirelli P-Zeros the 305 is one inch wider than the 295s and the tire height is the same).

Actually Joe,
I have been told that the measurement(305 or 295 whatever) is from sidewall to sidewall...and does not reflect the footprint. In this case, the footprint is relatively the same.
I am not trying to bust anyone's chops here....just thought it may be of interest...as I thought the same as you were, untill ccw set me straight!

I appreciate your clarification. What's interesting here is the folks that sold me my HREs and tires had me wait several weeks longer to get the 305s because of the alleged "one inch." I wouldn't doubt what you say and certainly not CCW as it would now appear I waited longer to get my stuff for no valid reason...so much for the expert advise I received.
Joe
FWIW..ccw had both types of tires in stock..and I originally wanted the "extra" inch as well. When John( if I remember right)told me the above and I think he said that he thought the pilot sports actually had a greater imprint( if I remember correctly..or it could have been he said they "appeared" larger...I honestly don't remember the exact phrase.)
But, that is the reason I went with pilot sports, plus I previously had them and was well aware of their ride quality
Both are good choices,I think anyway. Point is...not a big difference!
Something to consider is the sidewall design. I have Toyo T1-S in the 295/35-18. They have a rounded shoulder that looks kind of wierd. A tire with a squarer shoulder looks better in my opinion and because it has a square shoulder it may give a wider tread.
I just checked some specs to give you an idea of how this works. The BFG has a tread width of 9.8 inches and the Bridgestone has a tread width of 11.5 inches. Same size tires!!!!
