I have 99 coupe with the passive option on the remote. I don't understand the remote, if I don't use the car for 1 or 2 days, I have to reset the remote. Also, the car keeps locking itself after I already pressed the lock button.
I have replaced the battery on the remote.
Does anyone know what is going on? What is the passive option on the remote?
The passive function enabled lets you walk away from the car and it will lock itself after you walk bout 15-25 feet. And will unlock the car as you approach it within 15-25 feet.
I thought this was a neat option until I discovered that where i hang my keys is just inside my front door 20 feet from the car.....the locks cycled quite a bit....perhaps this is your problem.......lock..unlock.......lock..u nlock.......lock..unlock.......lock..unl ock.......

Not sure about the passive - but when my fob went bad, i had similar issues. I would have to sync it, and it would only hold for a short time, and when it did, it still didn't work right. When i hit lock or unlock, it would lock or unlock both sides twice.
The passive feature sucks, which is why it was done away with on later models.I carry my keys in my pocket, have have the passive switch accidently go to the on position and have had the constant lights on, lights off, lock, unlock as I walk around my home, drain my battery on at least five occasions. If your battery gets to a low voltage condition the fob will lose sync , requiring re-syncing.
