Default HorsePower Question

My 2002 coupe is in the Performance Shop having LG's installed.

They dyno the car for me BEFORE anything is done which is cool.

The shop calls me immediately after the dyno runs just to tell me what they got, I think because maybe they were surprised and thought I'd love to hear it. And I did, but, could this be correct?

The car is an MN6 LS1 with Vararam and Corsa cat back ONLY as it sits for this dyno pull. ( I am the origional owner so I know this is all that is done to the car ) (Last line added to post after I read the first reply )

They say they got 336 rwhp

Sounds pretty high to me.
No reason for them to lie about anything since this is before they even touch the car.
Is 336 rwhp possible?

This is just before they started to tear it apart and put my LG's on. Then of course after the LG's, 160 thermostat, new plugs and wires, Brian Herter will dyno tune with LS1 edit.
*** EDIT 5/13/05 AFTER NUMBERS HAVE BEEN POSTED BELOW ***

Have you been the only owner? Maybe a previous owner did a cam or lifters or heads?

Sounds high to start off with ... although it would be to their advantage to state a low number and then come back with HIGHER numbers after adding their products. Best thing to do is.. after the install go to a dyno day and test it against another dyno just to backup the numbers they give you.

I bought the car brand new. I'll edit my post to include that!

Thanks, I didn't think to add that part.

Hey Glenn,

If it's who I think it is that did the dyno, then they are giving you SAE numbers (corrected). I'd say you have a very good base line for headers and tune. What was the rwtq? Perhaps if that is low, you'll see a big improvement there and a modest gain on rwhp after the headers and tune. I've seen this before with other cars.

I think it's possible, but on the very outside of things. My 02 coupe, bone stock, pulled 318 rwHP. Maybe you had a high # coupe to start with. Add the Vararam and Corsas and who knows? As others have noted, maybe you have some unknown mods there.

BTW, you'll like the LGMs!

I would say it is high but certainly not impossible. Please post dyno after headers too.

It would appear that the Vararam is worth upwards of 20rwhp and while that's a few more than what I would expect; it sounds reasonable

Depending on outside temps and such, it may vary up or down a couple ponies.......but I have seen Vararam on the dyno by itself to put out about 10-12RWHP, plus the catback exhaust may give you another 5-10

I'd say that's about right with those mods, since a MN6 is already around 310-315RWHP stock.

Recently saw a MN6 -FRC dyno tuned after headers installed. Before the headers it was in the range of 325 rwhp - after headers on the dyno tune it stayed about the same.

WOW! Are you running with all 4 02s and cats? Mine (LGs w/cats & 4 02 sensors) dyno'd 335rwhp and 356rwtq *AFTER* putting the LGs on; without tuning of course.

You have a strong one! Wanna trade cars + cash?

Glenn,

Now I'll never get a chance to run with you Great numbers and I'll bet you can't wait to get her on the track. My MN6 with Vararam, Dynatechs, HF cats, Magnaflow Catback and tune went from 308 to 346 RWHP and 322 to 366 RWTQ.

See you at E-town soon though you will probibly just be a blue streak

Ed

YES, all 4 O2 sensors and R/T Hi Flow cats. They (LG) put bungs into the "X" pipe for the rear sensors and extension cables to get the front sensors down tho the header bungs. We installed the cats just after the headers and THEN the "X" pipe.

The car was strong even before the headers.
It also was dyno tuned after the header install.

Would it be possible for you to post (or PM) your before/after dyno graphs? Being that mine is an '02 MN6 also I'd like to compare my graph to yours. Thanks Glenn!
