Default Transmission Problem

I have a C5 convertible 1998. First time I put up for the winter. I moved from California to New York. Anyway, about 3 quarts of transmission fluid leaked out, I did not know, and the car slowed and would not let me go more than 30 MPH. The DIC read high transmission temp. The fluid has been replaced, but the car still will not let me go over 35 MPH. Did I mess up the tranny or does the car just need to be reset? If anyone knows, please let me know too. Thank you so much. Signed, Corvette Grandma.

Check the codes and see if any are set. If so, erase them and see if that rectifies the problem (unlikely). Here's the procedure for checking/erasing codes: (note: copy down the codes for future reference. You will want to post them here if your problem doesn't get solved, to help others troubleshoot):

||Turn the key to the ON position, but don't start the engine. Clear any present messages by pressing the RESET button. Hold the OPTIONS button down, and press the FUEL button 4 times. This will get you into the CODES section of the DIC. The computer will automatically display all the codes your car has created. It will cycle through each code every 3 seconds. Any code that ends in H is a history code (something that has occured in the past) but is fine now. Once the computer has finished going through all of it's codes, press RESET to enter Manual Configuration mode. It should start with a module and show "NO CODES" or "# CODES".

To optionally reset the codes once in manual mode, press and hold RESET until it displays "NO CODES". Press OPTIONS to go to the next module. Repeat the steps in this paragraph until you have reset the codes in all the computer modules. NOTE !! Only reset the codes IF you want to - it is NOT necessary to do this.||

Curious - how did the fluid leak out, and how was that fixed? Who refilled the tranny? It is very, very, very sensitive to fluid level and will act wierd if it's not just right. The car must be running, the tranny at the right temperature, and the car must be level to check the fluid level. If it's not any of these, the level will be off and it won't behave right. Trust me, I know......mine was off @ 1 cup and it wasn't staying in gear at highway speeds. Thought the tranny was shot!

I was told that I burned up clutch pack 3/4 and it will be anywhere from $900 to over $2500. Has anyone had this problem? Signed, Grandma.

You likely burnt clutch pack 3/4 I have known several people this happened to these transmissions are very sensitive to low fluid. If you want it redone by the best most honest person get in contact with Rodney "Crashed94" on the forum he ships them to tuners daily and will do you right. He may be out this next week though as I think he took a week off but you could try.

Yep my 3-4 cluthpaks went out at 42000 miles. This is the weak link to these transmissions. After they replaced the clutch paks I had more trans problems and wound up getting a new transmission. Thank God it was under warranty as I had about $ 4000.00 in transmission work done at the dealership in a 2 month period. What a nightmare. You might check into the price of a total rebuild before you have the clutch paks replaced. That is what I would do if its not under warranty.
