Can the front and rear oil galley plugs be verified by removing the freeze plugs and looking in? I am helping a guy install his motor and he can not say for sure if they have been installed or not. We really do not want to tear apart the motor if they have been installed. Currently the motor and transmission are installed.
Thanks for the pics Patches. The problem is that the front and rear covers are on. More so, the crank pulley and flexplate are also installed. So I was wondering if there is some sneaking way to tell if they have been installed or not. I know that the freeze plugs are located very close to both plugs.

I can't imagine how looking into coolant passages would allow you to view anything in the oil passages.
When you finally start it up and have no oil pressure, even at 4000+ RPM, you'll know their not there. Oil leaks (or not) everywhere will also give a hint.
Look at it this way, you both probably have so much experience with the rebuild you can do it in half the time ... I know I did. Yipee. Stupid machine shop in my case BTW. Denied responsibility. No damage done, and its was on a Toyota 22re (bulletproof) not the LS1. Shame on me for not checking.
