Default Auto Tranny Cooling Lines

On my 2001 Coupe w/ Auto tranny -

There are two cooling lines that run from the tranny to the radiator - The lines attach to the passenger side of the radiator, one on top and one near the bottom.

On the ends of both lines are threaded "fittings" which screw into the radiator. On the outside of both of these fittings is a flat rubber red/orange colored washer/oring.

GM apparently makes a special tool to remove these fittings from the tranny lines, and if the fittings are removed from the lines, there is a black rubber o-ring inside each fitting which you can see when it's removed.

I'm replacing the radiator. The tranny line fittings that I described above are apparently NOT available from GM. Rather, you have to buy the entire line. In fact, it doesn't appear the o-rings on these fittings are available separately either.

So, my question is: After you have removed / unscrewed the tranny cooling lines from the radiator, can you reuse the SAME lines, OR, will the old lines leak when re-installed into the radiator? Do I need to order new lines so I have new o-rings/fittings?

Thanks, Bill.

I have had my tanny lines remove and reattached numerous times without a problem. As long was the new radiator has the same connectors, you should not have a problem. A lot of the aftermarket radiators use AN connectors which are different than what GM used.

I don’t have any experience with that style of fitting on my C5 as it doesn’t have that style. However, in my job I sometimes work on hydraulic equipment that uses that style fitting and unless the o-ring is damaged in some way, it can be reused indefinitely without problems
