Default Tire Pressure Sensors

Time to get new tires and wheels for my 99 FRC. Will I need to replace the original tire pressure sensors? The originals work fine, although I hear they don't last forever. Would it be a good time to replace them ?
Thank you.

Yes change them. There is a guy who will rebuild yours or charge you a core fee and rebate when core returned or you can go new from gene @ Fred Beans(supporting vendor).
I'm sure someone will post the rebuilds name or do search to find it.
All this assumes you care enough about knowing your tire pressure.

FWIW... I have a 99 coupe, and one of my sensors dropped out
about 4 months ago. I plan to replace all of them when I get new shoes
in about 6 months. 5 years or so is the expected life of the original
battery.

I thought I remember reading these sensors are based on lithium batteries that should show about a 10 year life?

I read that you can replace the 3v lithium batteries, pretty cheap.

The batteries in the tire sensors on a 99 are not made to be replaced. From what I have read the battery life is around 6 or 7 years. There is a place who rebuilds (replaces the battery) for about $50 per sensor as I recall. The list price on a new one is $138.xx. Here is a link to the rebuild place. http://www.nericreations.com/

I was just on their site and there was no info on it. Besides, you should be able to buy new ones for about $50 each...

New ones are, at least $80.00 from anybody I have found. The list price on them is around $140.00 each for years 1997 through 2000. Part number is 10438853.

Gene at Fred Beans sells the '97-'00 sensors for about $84/ea. The '01-'04 sensors go for about $50 (smaller), new. I would never buy used sensors since you don't how much life is left in them.

Unless you want to mess with breaking down the outsides of the rims later, go ahead and replace them. Unfortunately, the older ones are more expensive, but I'd do so, not having to hassle with it later.

All the best.

I have a set of four used sensors from 2002 wheels. I swapped my 2000 wheels with a guy that had a 2002 on a lease. By the time I figured out the sensors were incompatible he had turned his car back over to the dealer. Tough way to find out.... Anyway, I figure the sensors have at most three years on them. I will let the set go for $100. They are in good condition, no scratches or dings.
