Jez there are so many which one I was looking at the wolfe 102-CWOL230CM Wolfe Racecraft 6 point 4130 Cromoly Weld/Bolt-In Roll Bar, 1997-2003 Corvette but can't figure out why it is priced at $430 vs 102-CWOL320CM Wolfe Racecraft 5 point 4130 Cromoly Bolt-In Roll Bar, 1997-2003 Corvette, Powder Coated Black at $860.00 I know the powder coating isn't the only difference. Someone please help me out If the first one works I would much rather save 400 dollars and just paint it myself or something. Also how much does it generally cost to have a roll cage installed?? Or any other suggestions for a cage. Thanks
I would suggest also posting in the Auto-x/RR section. If you're going to this expense you should get a cage that is approved by the various sanctioning bodies or it will only do you good for looks. The folks in that forum know more about what's approved and what's not, I know very little.
The Wolfe is approved as long as you don't get those stupid swingout bars. Get your 6 point setup with solid bars and you're good to go for all roll bar requirements, and if you ever need to do the front cage it's an easy addition
Mike, get the car going before you invest in a bar.JMO. You change your mind like most people their underoo's.
I know I know. But The car is gonna be running in about 2 weeks hopefully and I want to get the car ready for next month so I can hopefully go to Ca speedway. Are you going Chris??

Whats the difference between swing out door bars and removable?? this is still a street car so i would like to keep it somewhat liveable.

The coupe is ready to fire.... just waiting on a radiator to come in from Andy. I'm going to try and have Charlie tune this weekend GOD willing. These AFR/TEA's better work.
I have the 5pt removable door bar from wolfe and had the "powdercoated" black option...only it isnt powdercoated, it's painted. The lightest scratches to the surface cut through the finish like its a single coat of $2.99/can spray paint. I would suggest uncoated and get it either painted or powdercoated yourself. JMO.
(BTW I dont mean to bash wolfe...I would have brought it up with them but it is already IN...I dont care to remove and get it redone and then re-install.)

Mine is too. Unless you're handicapped, 350 pounds, or 70+ years old you don't need swing-out or removable bars. It's still very easy to get in and out of the car. Some designs are alright to have this way but if you get them made to be removable or swingout from Wolfe it will greatly decrease the strength of them. If you don't believe me ask Wolfe themselves. When I questioned their design to them (and told them I've built my own cages) they explained how those options are mainly for "show" cars or people that "need" them because the bars are ground down to fit inside and is going to be the weak point upon impact. The last thing anyone wants is the thing you expect to save your life impale and kill you. And since you actually plan on racing your car you might as well do it right.
If you do fit under one of the aforementioned categories you may want to get the solid bars and have it modified LOCALLY by a reputable cage builder to be sure it's still able to be certified. I'm by no means saying Wolfe is not reputable! I have one myself, they just did not intend their swingout/removable bar design to be used in racing applications!
