Default APP codes, service TCS

"service traction control" has been popping up here lately...about 3 times in the last week. I am getting codes:

DTC P1125 - Accelerator Pedal Position (APP) System
P1286 APP Sensor 3 Circuit Performance
C1278 TCS Temporarily Inhibited By PCM

When this happens I get a "reduced engine power" on the display too. The car is almost dangerous to drive since it doesn't want to accelerate at all. Normally when I re-start later it works fine (though I have to manually clear out the check engine light).

Any thoughts on what is causing this? I am assuming it has something do do with the drive by wire system but don't know where to start???? Any help would be much appreciated.

Here is a good description of the P1286, and here is a description of the P1125.

It sounds like your APP sensor could be bad or the TAC module. There are many diagnostics you can check that are listed under the P1286 link above. I don't think the average scan tool will provide you all the tools you need, but you can probably get a good idea of where the problem actually is. Do you own any type of scan tool like Ease?
