Default Q's: About 342 Gears

I have a friend that has 373 gears. At a dead stop, he can peel rubber in 1 and 2(auto). I also hav a 98 auto vert with 342's. From a dead stop, my car want spin with traction control on or off in 1 or 2. Is this right for 342's not to spin in 1 or 2 in a slightly moded vert.

Your 3.42s offer you better traction than your friend's 3.73s. Not unusual that he would get more wheel spin than you.

With 3.42 gears you should be able to spin your tires, assuming you are running stock run flats. If there is a tuner near you have your car checked. Your car sounds like it might be down on power. Or some other tuning issue.

I'm not running run flats and I just installed vararam and tpis headers. I guess I need to get the car tuned again. Even when I got a street tune for the 342's/air/fuel/shift points/etc... the car has never spun from a dead stop or roll. But the car runs strong.

You definately should get your car tuned. After installing headers your engine will often run too rich costing you HP. If you really want to wake up your car install a high stall T/C.

I melt my tires in 1st or 2nd with 295 F1s and 3.42s. I dont see a need to go with shorter gears becuase even with DRs i leave 20ft black marks in 2nd.

Do you have a yank or vig t/c. Or, are you running a stock stall.

Blackwing, Kooks headers w/high flow cats,Corsa Indy Tigersharks, 3.42 gears and hardened shaft - smoked the GSD3's last year without the headers- just took off the traction control, sat still, stomped on it and applied the Goodyear rubber to the road!!

Mine's a Z06, so manual. Not dumping the clutch just flooring it once moving it starts spinning and shifting into 2nd and flooring it does the same.

Heck, with my original 3.15 I could get tire squeal when punching-it from a stop. Not much though, but it would chirp the tires. With my 3.42 (still using the stock tires and TC) there's no problem at all.

Here is a video of a girl driving my 2002 just after the 3.42 upgrade (and that was the only mod at the time the video was taken):
http://hometheater.home.att.net/ohiogirl1year.mpg
(of course, traction control was turned off via the DIC)

Granted; in order to seriously melt the factory tires, I would still need to start it off with a little bit of power-braking first.
Smoking tires may be a cool visual effect, but it makes one a lose in a drag race.

Hey Mike, I use to get a squeal or chirp every now and then when it shifted into 2nd, but now after the vararam and header install it want do either. I think I need to get it re-tuned. The car feels and runs strong but hearing everyone talk on the forum, I should lay some black marks from a stand still than stomp.
