I will be installing a new cam and timing chain set in the near future and was wondering if it would be worthwhile to port the stock oil pump for increased flow while I am at it. The cam I have chosen is the MTI Stealth I (220/220, 581/581, 115) so I am guessing that I will probably push the motor no faster than about 6500 RPMs or so (MN6 car). Have any of you done this mod? If so, do you think it is necessary or worth the time?
Apparently the outlet in the oil pump housing can be ported with a grinder for increased flow. This process is detailed on page 53 of HP Book's "Chevy LS1/LS6 Performance" by Chris Endres. Unfortunately I don't have a scanner and so can't post a picture.
