Default Hood Reinstallation

I just want to start off first by saying it looks like you guys have a great forum going here!

That being said, I am writing today because my father and I (father and son time) put on a K&N air intake system on our 2004 C5 this past weekend and I came up with the great idea of taking the hood off so we would have little bit more space to work. :o Now that we've completed bolting on the K&N we are stuck on how to get the hood back on. The bottom two bolts don't fit unless the hood is halfway down and we can't figure out how to do that. We've tried putting the top two bolts in and pushing the hood down but it (the hood) just wants to swivel. Neither of us are all that car savvy (if it wasn't obvious already) and could just use a little help (ideas) on how to get the hood back on. Thank you very much!

you know I've never looked at my Vette but with prior cars I always marked critical hinges, pneumatic struts etc.so I would know how to reinstall.Tomorrow I'll give it a look see, and see if I can offer some sound advice.

I might be interested in that also, I was thinking of changing out the hood, would suck if I got the new hood and couldn't put it back on...

Hi, after you get the first two bolts in ,unhook the gas struts while one person holds the hood, you should be able to get it to go down eaiser. Next time unbolt the other set of bolts and take the hinge off with the hood, it is eaiser to adjust that way too. good luck

It's near impossible to mount the hood with the struts on.

After a quick look see, it looks like a fairly easy job if each of you has four arms and hands or you enlist the aid of a third person. to get at the lower bolts you must hold the hood at approx. half open position, if there is any adjustment with those bolts it doesn't show. Then with hood in the fully up position attach the strut bolts, on mine they are adjusted to the bottom position, but since there are three marks I assume that there will be some variance. If the hood sits high then you would have to adjust accordingly.

Remove the gas struts and it's a piece of cake.... they just snap out from the clip.
