Something has been puzzling me for the last few months, so I thought I'd finally post and see if anyone has any ideas.
In the low gears (possibly high gears too, but it's not audible over the road noise), I have a pronounced rattling sound any time the engine is slowing the car down. It's very evident in parking lots, for example. It goes away the instant I accelerate.
I don't even know where to start investigating. Anyone able to point me in the right direction to getting rid of it? Thanks in advance
In all likelihood this is in your exhaust system. I spent a year trying to track this demon. GM will tell you that it is caused by "turbulence" in the exhaust... caused by the H pipe and overall poor design. After a loooong fight with them and the dealership I took matters into my own hands. I installed new high flow cats and an X pipe which, along with the Z06 Titanium mufflers, seemed to solve the problem. It resurfaced recently and to my amazement, was ultimately caused by a small part that fits between the end of the exhaust manifold and the catalysts, right in between where the parts meet/flanges. This piece (I wish I could remember what it is called) had come apart and the round sheet metal piece was rattling around inside my new cat pipes. Fortunately I fished it out and have been noise free since. Ecklers sells these little parts but I could not locate them on their website.
I highly recommend replacing the cats & X-pipe, nice sound and HP gain.
