I never really had any low RPM engine pinging until I began to modify the car. Lately, it had been rather loud, to the point where I wanted to duck below the dash when I turned a corner at an intersection, or took off from a stoplight. I thought the DiabloSport tune might help, but I was wrong. I was also thinking of getting roller rockers to help quiet her down. Nothing was working for me.
Luckily, I stumbled across a nice little product called Lucas Octane Booster at the local O'Reilly auto store. I put a full bottle of that in the car and no more pinging/knocking.
Just wanted to pass on that the Lucas booster really does work, if you can stomach the $8.00 a bottle every time you fill the tank. I thought the information might help some of you out with your own engine pinging/knocking problems.
She runs so strong now, I hope my tranny doesn't blow up!
I didn't have any pinging, but I add a quart of Torco with each tank due to my high compression engine. We only have 91 in Cali, the Torco raises my Octane to 93.5 - 94!
I don't have the pinging issue with bolt on mods on my 97 mn6 but I am a true believer in ALL of the Lucas products, they are awesome!
I owned an automatic 5.0 mustang before buying the C5, the mustang tranny was shot, slipping and making all kinds of noises. One day I put a Lucas tranny additive in it and I was amazed, the trans was instantly fixed, noises were gone and even stopped slipping! Sold it a few weeks later and never heard from the guy.
I always use the Lucas octane booster in the C5 before going to the track....
