Default HORRIBLE knock at start up, HELP!

Hey guys, I did some mods to the car today, I swapped my LS6 intake manifold off of my SS, and added a K&N filter. I did a fancy version of the zip tie mod, I made new metal straps so now those factory clips still work, but the new straps are shorter. Looks nicer, and is functional. Anyways, I got everything bolted back together, and no extra parts. Whew! Got my camaro back together too, which I'm happy about. Anyways, I go to start the Vette, I turn the key, the engine turns over, but it didnt fire. Odd. I tried it again, and it fired right up. I'm going to attribute this to lack of fuel because the fuel rail was off, but whatever. So it fires right up, and immediately starts making this knocking noise. Not loud, but a noise I have never heard before. It went away after about 5 to 8 seconds, and hasnt done it again since. I'm wondering what it is. On the bright side, the car seems to run great with no issues, and the butt-o-meter seems to be registering a little higher. I didnt really have a chance to get on it, the old ball and chain wants to go out and shes mad because I've been playing with my "toys" all day long. Heh heh, wait until tomorrow, ball of chain. Anyways, does anyone have any idea what this is? It's only done it this once, and I don't think its piston slap because its never made this noise before and I've started it on much colder occasions without a peep.

Sounds like a lifter was squished.

I don't know, but what you are describing sounds like that. Did something get into one of the intake ports?

I sure as hell hope not, I've done the swap several times on f-bodies before, and I was very careful to keep everything clean.

Sounds like you may have gotten a metal shaving or something into the intake system during the manifold swap. Sounds like it may have passed through the engine without a problem. It doesn't take much to make a loud noise. I don't think I'd worry about it!

Could have been the fuel injectors until they got pumped up again?
