Default pull key, wait 10... now C1281

My '98 A4 coupe showed this message yesterday after the car died pulling out of a parking space, ...happened twice. The car has had the "column lock " recall done by GM and I am not sure if the harness K was installed but presume so.
Today the DTC showed "service vehicle soon" and the only code is C1281H, "steering sensor uncorrelated malfunction". Are these related? Anyone suggest a fix? I have heard that some of the harnesses are faulty....

Thanks

I wonder if you install the Column Lock Bypass (CLB) module that your error code and message will go away for good.

Most likely your steering censor is getting ready to take a dump on you. It will throw codes until it gets out of calibration bad enough to shut the car down. Not an easy or cheap fix either I'm afraid. Good luck, maybe it's just a fluke.

Default c1281

Thanks very much... there is another thread running with a similar situation

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1105252

but in this case there was no "pull key, wait 10 sec" message as in my case. I assume there is probably no connection between the two. The car is running, driving ,steering fine so I think I will reset the code and see if it throws it again...

Your steering sensor maybe having problems, but prior to replacement check to make sure you have a good solid clean connection at the Traction and Brake Module under the rear of your car (behind transmission). A poor connection will cause the 1281 Code.

Default fixed!!!!!!!!!!

I have been waiting to see if this really worked and having driven 7-800 miles since cleaning and reseating the EBTCM plug I think I can say that its fixed Nary a single 1281 code since and I was getting one every time I went for a drive. Thanks for the tip, saved a lots of time replacing the sensor for nothing...

Mine would have the same code. Never did figure it out. I'd clear it and 5min. later it would be back. Here is the strange part, I installed a superchips and the code never came back. that was three months ago.
