Hi All,
I am hoping someone can help me....and soon. I drove my Vette out of town today and after driving most of the day with no problems, I pull into my friends driveway and shut it off like normal. I come back out about an hour later and it will not start. It cranks over fine, just will not fire. I pulled the codes and nothing came up. I had a 1/4 of a tank, so we ran down to the gas station and put some more in just in case, now it is just below 1/2 tank...still no go. Pulled the negative cable and let it sit for a few, reconnected....no go. Pulled all of the fuses under the hood...all good....no go. When I turn the car to run, I hear the fuel pump prime. Am I missing something?
I called the 24 hour roadside assistance and they were about as worthless as a $3 bill They could not/would not help me and said I was pretty much on my own with my $50,000 paper weight until Monday. Should be Mon-Fri, 8am-5pm service
Any ideas on what is causing this/how to fix this easily and keep it out of the dealers hands will be greatly appreciated
I wonder if you are getting any fuel pressure. Sounds like there is no fuel passing through.
When you have the hood open, I once ran out of gas. I put gas in and took many cranks to get the gas flowing through the lines. I removed the intake by the throttle and let a lot of the fumes escape because it kept building up. Crank it a couple more times and bam it turned over.
one time that happened to me too and for the life of me I couldnt figure it out, I did pretty much the same as what you did but then I messed around with the alternater wires to see if they were loose or somethin and It started right up after that. it never happened after that.
might not solve your problem, but its worth a try.
Update...I tried a number of things today...still no dice. I swapped out a few of the different relays and checked every fuse that could have anything to do with the engine/fuel system. Everything was good. I can almost get it to start if I turn the key on/off a few times to prime the pump then hit the starter. It sounds like maybe 2 cylinders fire then it just goes back to cranking
I could smell fuel after messing with it for a while, so I pulled a few plugs....all where dry
I give up for now, it is going to a dealer to see what they can do with it. Yeah, my Vettes first flatbed ride, I was just hoping that day would come when I broke it for excessive power, not some defect
connecticut- Bills post dealt more with a car that would not turn over...mine cranks but will not "catch". Thanks for the link though, it had a bunch of other good info
blu00rdstr- I checked that fuse...twice It was good. I can hear the pump prime when I turn the key to run, but it is acting like it is not getting enough fuel to actually make the car run. Hopefully the dealer can figure it out easier than I can. Thanks for the advice
Talked to the dealer....they believe it to be a bad fuel pump. Should have it fixed for me by Weds. I wonder why the fuel pump went bad after only 7000 miles on a 2004

My symptoms were that when I climbed a hill, it would spit, sputter, and jump. As long as I was on flat roads and cruise control all was well.
I had the fuel pump changed out also. But then they could not get it to start (same symptom as you). Then after fiddling for days, they would drive it some to test it out. Once it just quit about a mile from the service place.
Turns out, there was a connector near the passenger side fuel until that would not connect well. They managed to use tie-wraps to clamp the connector and it's held for a year.
That is until I had the fuel sending unit replaced (gauge going to zero) on the passenger side. Now it does the jumping thing again so our trouble shooting will begin with that connector.

My fuel pump went out on my 96 Impala SS with only 2800 miles on it...go figure. Hope the dealer fixes it for you...

Jeremy, please keep us updated on this, and what the final fix is.
And curious did they privide a loaner?

No loaner, but in all fairness I did not ask for one since I had already made it back home. I was not going to drive back down to Indy (130 miles each way) to pick up a Malibu Now if they could have offered me one when I was stuck down there I might have taken it just to get home
--98Pace97Coupe That sounds Why did they not just replace/rewire the connector? GM service scares the crap out of me. I seem to have got a bunch of good guys at the shop it is at now though.

WWK888 My brother just moved to Kailua. He tells me that it is beautful, but equally expensive. He is not into Vettes, has a 05 Nissan Titan. But I digress, I hope that it was just strange occurence and it they get it fixed too
Update: Picked up from the dealer and all is fine. It was a bad fuel pump. Brought her home last night and SOTP it feels stronger...could just be due to me driving my Pontiac Vibe (work car) all week
Anyways, if any of you are ever in Indianapolis and need work done, Bill Estes Cheverolet did a great job on my car. They even left the PCM alone so I did not have to get it reflashed I also noticed that their parts department sells Vette upgrades too. I saw the GM performance pads and slotted/drilled rotors, a twin flow intake, and some other cool stuff. They are at the corner of 96th and Michigan roads (On the far north side of the city). Devon was the one who helped me and provided great customer service and got the job done....which was nice after the disappointing time I had with the Roadside Assistance (or lack there of) number
They could not tell me why the fuel pump went bad after on 7k miles, just that it did. Oh well, it could have been worse
