Hey guys I'm interested in buying a C5, and I have a bad habit when it comes to making cars faster. I don't know too much about these cars, and I have been lurking here for several weeks. When you start modding these cars what do I need to watch for or upgrade first. I just found out today that all C5's have IRS I am not too thrilled with that idea, is it strong, or is wheel hop going to make me cry? What else?

Depends on your driving style. It's ALL in the style.
If you drive like you stole it on the twisties than nothing will break. If you want to impress the girls at every stoplight then everything will break.
I drive mine like I stole it but I never launch too hard. Had 497rwhp with stock drivetrain and nothing broke.
Use your noggin, and you should be fine.
and BTW, solid axles are for drag racers only. If you do NOT want to turn corners and that's your bag then a Vette may not be the ideal car for you. A Mustang would do that job far better, IMHO.
400 RWHP and i drive it like i stole it. If you like the 1/4 mile and your putting down good numbers, your half shafts will go. Hardend ones run 300 to 400. Other then that its a solid rear end and drivetrain.
When you really start making big power and you're doing hard launches at the drag strip, usually the first thing to break is the output shaft. They sell hardened versions for this. Next is the differential housing cracking. DTE sells a brace to prevent this. After that, I say your tranny would be the next victim.
