I got a Delco Platinum Pro in my 89 vette. Its 4 years old and still good.
I store it every winter and so far it starts no problem. Its sealed and same tech as the optima - glass mat.

WalMart is best, 3 year warrentee and always close by. No cost during the first three years, then if you need a new one three years starts over. Thanks Sam W
Just rember liquid acid battery's will leek.....and your computer is right under the battery.......so what ever you get should be glass matt or dry cell.....it might cost more in the short run but will give you the peace of mind in the long run and also the cost of fixing the whole electrical system......I have Optima.... 2yrs now no problem
How many here have replaced their battery with an OEM battery or something very close? Anybody?
I would stay with the OEM battery. The only real concern seems to be if the side terminals leak. Luckily, I have an '04 and GM went back to top post batteries. On my other cars I would consider staying with the Delco battery and finding a way to adapt to a top post configuration.
Now I am curious. I have a 2002 also. The Battery is a Delco Cat No. 2277. Nonspillable Absorbatant Glass Matt Battery. Replacement. It states further: Replacement Model 75P-7YR. There is a Bar Code No. 19002277. I presume this is the original battery. The battery and the tray are spotless.
QUESTIONS:
1. Does anyone know from these numbers if the battery is original?
2. I was told that the famous "Battery Leakage" problem was fixed with a new battery in late 2001 or for sure in 2002. Can anyone confirm this?
I have had my red top for three trouble-free years. The original delco emitted a whole host of unwarranted trouble codes as it began to fail and completely loose charge.
I've had one for more than two years now and am very satisfied. Many auto parts stores carry them. They're about the same price as the Optima.
I have always had great service from Delco batteries and haven't actually had one leak... yet. But because the battery in the C5 is right over the computer, I'm not willing to take the risk with a wet cell battery as long as there are other options.
I'm still running the OEM battery in my 03 Z (which is even smaller than the C5) w/o problems. But I like to prevent problems and am looking to preventative replace it before winter sets in. It seems for years the Optima's were the golden boy and every one was on that band wagon. Now I'm not so sure. I did install a battery acid absorption mat under the battery and in/around the area directly below the battery just to be safe.
I've always had great service from Sears DieHard's. Decision's decision's.

I would like to know what the decision is when you make it? Thanks
Right at about 2 1/2 years, while cleaning the connections, I found my '01 OEM battery had been leaking on top of the computer. Without any question, I make a quick trip down to Sams Club for a Red top. I have used Red Tops for many years in several cars with no problems. I have also had many acid type, like my C5, go B.U., long before their time. So how can you draw a line on what's bad or good?
Put my second OEM 2000 battery in my motorhome, as the starter battery, still working fine. Let it leak, I don't care on that. Only goes on ground. They were smart enough not to put a computer under it on my GMC motorhome. Put a red Top Optima in the Vert and it lasted 4 months and went deader than a door nail. Traded it towards a yellow top. That's been fine for the last 2 years. The deep cycle yellows have tougher plates and more resistant to discharging and coming back than the reds. That's what deep cycles are all about. I know that from my motorhome. The Vert is mostly in storage. Only has 5K on it since 2000. Always garaged in SoCa. Never rained on.
DISCLAIMER: I make 'em and sell 'em, so I'm definately biased.

I have a drycell in my little turbocharged Focus as well (made my own bracket), and while they have plenty of cold cranking amps for startup... they do NOT, I repeat do NOT have a lot of reserve capacity.
If you want to run your stereo or accessories for a while w/ the engine off, look elsewhere. Otherwise, there is only one manufacturer as far as I know, but there are tons of resellers under different names (some priced higher than others): Dynabatt/ hawker/ genesis / etc
BTW, I thought that newer Vettes (was it 02+) have AGM batteries from the factory. Am I mistaken?
Otherwise, Optima red or yellow tops have great reputations.

If you are concerned with weight, go with Hawker Genesis/Odyssey battery. They have one that only weighs 13 lbs and it can be mounted in any position. As the weight suggests, they don't have much in reserve, they do have enough CCA/CA, just don't run your stereo with the engine turned off for too long. I have run the Dynabatt in my previous Talon AWD and it did just fine. Cranked the motor just fine in OH winters. The price is the problem with Dynabatt and the Hawker Genesis is the same battery for much less.
Read it in here, there are suggestions where to get the battery that you want.
I have had a Redtop in my car for 4 years...absolutely no problems. I usually store my car four months each winter with a charger attached the whole time.
I simply replaced mine with the larger of the two Optima red-tops, as I already have a half-dozen in my assorted toys--all without incident.
Vette's a daily driver, but I keep all the others on Battery Tenders on timers and all is well and has been since my first Optima (8 years old and still in use).
