Both of the power windows on my 99 have quit working -- first the driver's side, then the passenger side too. It's happened a few times before to one side or the other, but always under warranty, and not both at the same time. (No warranty now.) You can hear the switch click and see the interior panel lights fade a little when you try the window switch. Can anyone tell me if that means the regulators need to be replaced, or are the windows jammed in the up position? Dealer wants $1100 to replace both regulators ($352 a piece for the regulators, plus labor). I know it's a rip off, but I'm not a do-it-yourselfer, so I'm at the dealer's mercy. Any advice from you pros?
If it happened a few times before on each window I would take it back to the dealer and have a chat with them. Sounds like something in the car is not right and causing regulators to burn up. I have never heard of a C5 loosing a regulator let alone several of them. If the dealer will not do anything you should have whoever does the repair check the window's wiring and path of travel. Maybe you have a bad window guide and it causing the malfunction. Something is not right for you to be loosing regulators.
Before you spend anything on this problem try opening the windows while driving on a rough road. Both of mine quit working last year and this got them started again for me. Also, once you get them working be sure you open and close them occasionally. I understand that this is a common problem with windows that are seldom used. Since adopting this routine, I have had zero problems.
Assuming the regulators to be bad and that they were repaired under warranty prior, you should have recourse back to the dealer regarding this repair.
