Is My Corvette Safe ? ECL System Recall
I received an email from my gm link telling me to take my 2004 manual 6 speed in for a recall. I called the gm hotline and after several calls it seems that the recall was performed before I took ownership last fall. I bought the vette new Sept. 2004.
I am very concerned about my and my wife's safety while driving this car. It seems from what I have read that there have been 355 repoted column lock ups while driving at speeds from 5 to 65 mph. THIS SCARES ME!
What I would like Chevrolet to do is what they have done to the automatic corvettes, Take the column lock OUT! I have been in contact with ever one I can think of and it seems at this moment I am getting nowhere trying to explain my concerns.
I am retired and have dreamed of having a Corvette since I was a child and now that I own one it seems that the thing could lock up while driving. My question to the forum is: Just how safe is my vette now that the recall was performed? AND if it is really not safe what measures could I take to force Chevrolet to fix my vette like the automatics? I have called the National Highway Traffic Safety Adm. and was told that they could only take my complaint and add it to a data file and that was it. Chevrolet has said that since the Recall was done to my vette that all that can be done has been done.
Thanks in advance for any advice.
