Default ls6 intake manifold q's

Hey guys, got some questions about what to do for an intake manifold on my car. I have a 00 frc

1. I was told that 01 and up already have it, but some say that even a few of the 00 have it, how can I know if mine does or not?

2. Is the ls6 intake better/easier or is the ls2 intake?

3. What parts besides the intake are needed?

thanks
Ben

My understanding is that they switched to the LS6 intake and block during the MY 2001 run.

The LS6 intake has been shown to be the better choice for stock disp. LS1/6 motors. I would stick with that for now if you're going to swap intakes on a stock motor. You probably won't see much, if any, improvement without h/c, headers, intake and tuning. It's definitely worth doing if you're headed in that direction though.

Here's a great how-to:

Don't take that site as gospel, several errors in the reporting and what was changed/added per years. E.G., 2001 used 500/500 cam, that was a 2000 only cam to make up the 5 hp you lost with the pup cats.

Look at the part numbers stamped in the side. Depending On Engine Ls1/ls6 The Ls6 Intake Was New Design For The Ls1 And The Part Number Changed. Runner Length 262mm And Plenum Vol 5.19 Liters And Runner Vol Of .541 Is The Same For 12561182 And 12573572.

1997-2000 1255633 Ls1
2001-2002 12561182 Ls1/ls6
2002-2004 12573572 Ls1/ls6

2001's and up do have the ls6 manifold. 00 and down do not. This goes for all vettes and i believe f-bodies.

Now as far as telling if you have a ls6 vs. a ls1 manifold, the only way to tell is to take it off and look at the underside. The way the plastic is cast (for support?) is different. It is visually different.

Take a look at this pic... ls1 on the left, ls6 on the right

the way I could always tell was that LS1 had a box shape towards the throttle body, and the LS6 had a circle shape towards the throttle body

01+ have LS6 IMs

I'm not sure you can bolt your oe throttle body to a LS2 intake.
However, LS2 intakes are only $225 new vs $425 for a new LS6 intake.
A new LS2 throttle body is about $250. The LS2 throttle body will flow more air than the oe LS1, LS6 throttle body. But not sure the LS2 intake has the performance potential of the LS6 intake. Maybe someone with some good info will chime in.

There is been tests that showed the LS2 manifold lost power compared to the LS6. If anyone is interested I have a LPE ported LS6 intake that was painted silver for sale. I went to the Fast 90 so I don't need the LS6 one anymore.
