Collapsed Upper Radiator Hose
The radiator/engine cooling system had been completely drained, so I filled it w/ anti-freeze/water last night prior to starting the car. I followed the service manual directions (or so I thought), IE: fill coolant tank, run car @ idle w/ cap off for 1 minute, top fluid off, put cap on, vary engine between idle and 3000 RPM until coolant reaches 210 degrees, open cap (slowly), top of and done. Everything seemed ok, no problems last night.
However, this morning, I was looking at the engine compartment, and I noticed that the UPPER radiator hose was collapsed in on itself. I loosened the coolant tank cover, and the cooling system "sucked" some air in (not a lot, but I heard it), and the upper radiator hose went back to its normal, non-collapsed state.
I obviously don't want this to happen when I'm driving the car. So, what caused this? Did I not fill the system properly, is there air in the system that needs purging (if so, how), does this normally happen, etc.
Anyone else experience this, or know why it happened?
Thanks, Bill.
