So, I've had my '01 Vette for about a month now, and other than flooring it here and there, I've never done anything to really tax the car. On one occasion, I did attempt to "burn the tires". I took active handling off and floored it from a stop. The tires still didn't spin. Despite the fact that I have an A4, I was under the assumption that the tires should have spun? Am I supposed to push the brake down while gassing to spin the tires? My brother-in-law has no problems spinning his tires in his M6. I've never had a high-horsepower vehicle before, so please be gentle on me .
Additionally, I am considering doing some mods to increase horsepower. I have done a search and have found some recommendations, and it seems that the overwhelming response to "what my first mods should be" include: intake and exhaust first. I am also considering doing a cam eventually, along with headers. Since I am a total newbie when it comes to this type of stuff, should I risk diving into my engine myself, possibly screwing something up, or should I take it to someone?

Your car has two systems, Active Handling being one of them. Traction Control is the other system, and that needs to be turned off to allow a burn-out. Just my opinion, but with a cost of about $300 per tire, I wouldn't be doing this too often
