Default ANY PROBLEMS WITH 17" WHEELS ALL AROUND

Looking to upgrade my 99 with 2000 or later Thin Spoke wheels. Are there any problems associated with having the 17s on the rear so long as I get the tire size to "match?" Help!

Why get the 17"s all around? The later thin spokes came in the same size as the earlier years. 17x8.5 (front) and 18x9.5 (rear).

Raptorent, I have that combination on my 04Vert. I used a factory front 17" on the rear. The "correct" tire size that works and is available is 245x50x17. on the rear and 245x45x17 stock size on the front.
I used Mich Pilot Sports, non run-flat. The car handles and rides much better than the stock tires produced. The 245x50x17 produces the same overall diameter as the 275x40x18 stock tire. There are no TC or speedometer issues. call if you care to discuss. 724-882-5266

Hope this helps.

Default Thanks Bob

Bob,
This does help. I take it there are no issues with the sensors?

Keep the 18's, with bigger wheels on back your car is going downhill, thus greater speed

So if I put 20s on the rear I can go really fast.

Steve, absoultely no problem. The sensors are the same for the front and rears. You have to have the earlier series sensors for your year but other than that there are no issues. I don't know why you are considering going 17's all around but my objective was maximum sidewall height for ride quality without changing overall diameter. It is really the opposite direction that most take in that most are going for greater rim size to get more section but they must then reduce sidewall height to stay at the same overall diameter.
By the way, if you, care, by going to the 245x50x17 Mich., the speed rating is reduced from a Y (stock) to a W which I think limits the top speed of the tire to somewhere in the 160 MPH area. It doesn't afect me but I thought I would mention it. If you need the exact dimensions of the comparision let me know but because the overall diameter is the same the car does not know you have a 17' wheel if you use the size tire mentioned .
