Yes there is a service kit, I bought mine from Midamerica. the plastic container you described, is it the indicator that tells you to clean the filter you are talking about?

You can also use the K&N recharge kit. There is no plastic container on the side. There is an air indicator on the top on the drivers side.
No flames but I have heard not to mix the K&N and Blackwing cleaner and oil. Something about K&N being cotton-based and Blackwing being synthetic-based.
Also, don't over-oil the element!! The excess oil can build up on the MAF wires and cause trouble.

For what it's worth....
I've heard the same thing. Also heard that's BS. I have a Blackwing and a k&N recharge kit. No problems.

Absolutely correct Below is an archived email.
----------------------- I have been doing a lot of mods to my car, and in the process I have
had to "scan" the engine with a program on my laptop called "Ease". We were
really getting a lot of problems with the performance and tune, but the car
"seemed" to run fine. It turns out, my BlackWing filter got oil on my MAF
sensor, and resulted in the sensor not reporting all the air going through.
The result was more oxygen being delivered than PCM knew about, and then the
O2 sensors were running very lean. This condition then results in the PCM
retarding the spark/timing, thus harming performance. The "oily" MAF was
solved easily by taking the MAF sensor off the intake, and then spraying an
electronics cleaner available from Radio Shack on it. I did it a second
time to be sure. Shake excess cleaner out and let the MAF sensor dry well,
then reassemble your intake. The car was running much better after that,
and we were able to be a better custom tune.
