I was wondering where the cheapest place to buy some Random Tech cats would be? Also, are there any other cats that flow just as good as the Random Tech, that are cheaper? I just moved to CA from KS and I need cats to have my car smogged.
Will my car be significantly quieter once I install the cats? Currently, I have B&B Tri-Flow PRT's with a Bassani X-pipe. I just don't want to lose the mean sound I have now.
Call WestCoastCorvettes:Paul @ 714.630.6396 ext 232. I just got off the phone w/ him and he's thinking he may have 2-4 sets still left. These are 2.74" that come w/ x-pipes. He needs to confirm they're still physically there and will know by tomorrow morning for sure at around 10am.

I would try to get him now.. He's asking $400..
OK, I just got off the phone with him, and they do have a few sets, but they will only work with TPIS headers. He also said that you can't have any aftermarket cats in CA. Is this true? Can some CA vettes chime in and tell me what my options are? Should I just get the factory cats and H-pipe and have them installed?
Sorry - no aftermarket cats for anything after 1995, I believe, in CA. Go to Random Tech's website for final word.
Now, if your smog guy does a visual will he know the difference (with the names removed/hidden, obviously). Will he even get under there? Of course, unless you have stock manifolds or (from what I hear) equally useless shorties, he may see the headers and look further...
Tell us if you find a way around this - I want RTs also.

Depends on what you're doing.. I'm running a turbo which benefits from running the least restrictive exhaust you can come up with.. I choose to run cats and cats that'll not become useless in a few months.. RT's are to me the only option. I use a 2.75" band that matches perfectly to the stock piping. If I need to I can always weld them on.. in other words, tpis headers aren't the only things they'll work on.
If you're worried about passing smog, they won't go as far as checking if these aren't stock. They just have to be in the same place as the stock cats.. which for my 2000 it is. Then again, it'll be hard for them to get past my top loaded PTK twins in the engine bay
