Default Strange loud whine

Hey guys need some input.

Car year: 2000
Miles: 84,000
Tranny: M6

Well I had my car dynoed at A&A party for FREE .

So later on that day when driving at night I get this loud noise coming from the front of the car, at least it sounds from the front.

It happens when the engine is accelarating. It does not happen in 1st gear or 2nd gear. The noise happens when I am in 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th. This only happens when I apply the gas. If I remove my foot off the gas the noise goes away.

At first I thought bad tire noise, nope!! Would happen if I took my foot off the gas.

Could it be tranny related. Differential issue.

Could doing the dyno screw something up? .

I checked under the hood and everything looks okay. I have no leaks anywhere. When idleing no weird noise. Just when I apply the gas pedal.

Please help guys.

Thanks.

P.S should mention the noise is not the marble noise, sounds like a high pitch of some kind.

so its speed related no RPM related. This may eliminate any of the pullies. What happens if you are in 3rd gear and doing 30-40 MPH? Does it still whine..

it does it when I am doing 40 mph in 3rd gear. Then when I shift into 4th the noise goes away as I put the clutch in and then once 4th gear comes in the noise begins.

I tried that when I am doing any speed between 30 mph and 70 mph, I get the whine. Once I put the clutch in and keep the rpm the same the noise is gone.

Could be the belt slipping +/or a pulley issue. Someone else just had this same issue last week.

It's the intake manifold whistling, a common 'problem'. It doesn't hurt anything and isn't a sign of anything wrong, except maybe the design of the manifold itself. When the car was under warranty, GM would replace it for free, but not anymore. There's a thread or two here on CF about how you can fix it yourself by putting some filler into the unused opening that causes the whistle.

I've learned to ignore mine...pretty much anyway.

Well it happens when I give it gas so that would mean air sucking in through the throttle. You got me thinking about that.

I changed the differential fluid and oil change yesterday and it sounds the same. I thought maybe by checking the differential fluid for metal pieces it would point me to something, but no luck which is good.

Now I will check the throttle and everything up to the manifold. You could be on to something.

I will do a search.

Thanks.

There's a void in the casting for the intake manifold, and it's inside, so when air passes over it, it acts like a whistle. IMO, not worth the effort to fix it.

You know, the only thing is, I will be driving put the clutch in and hold it and hit the gas, the noise is not there. When I put the clutch back, you hear the noise

No luck. My next thing is to have the tranny fluid changed. Maybe it is low, but my gears don't slip. Just damn!!!

I have no idea, my car since it had 0 miles has always had kind of a buzz to it, not loud, only i can really hear it, but its definitely only when gas is on, if heavy gas then goes away. had someone check it out awhile ago and they said it was fine, just the car. rear end fluid has always been clean. yours may be louder than mine. i have an '00 with 49K miles, 6M. recently i drove a '99 6M that made a similar buzz.

Well i bought the car when it had 23000 miles. It never had that noise. The car has 84000 miles now and it just started. Not normal for it.

So it has to be something.

Thanks for the input.
