Auto to MN6 conversion info needed
How much will I have to spend in parts???
Where can I get the parts from???
How hard is it???? Keep in mind I am VERY mechanically inclined
Where can I get more info (Maybe a good write-up) on the conversion???
And who has done it before???
its probably best to trade the car in on a manual, but if you cant, ull need all the basic parts off a m6 car. trammy. clutch, slave cyl master, pedal, interior parts, linkages, umn someone else can explain it better but its a pita, better to just trade for one thats already done, will probably be cheaper in the long run, I thought about changin my a4 to an m6 but figured it would be to much.

As always for the auto to 6 speed swap threads:
do you guys do a lot of road racing??? autox????
a properly built and set up auto can and usually does beat the m6 in drag racing and daily drivers.
the auto wont miss a shift, wont burn out the clutch, wont stall thru an intersection, wont tire your leg out in stop and go traffic, can shift faster thru the gears etc etc.
i have actually thought of switching my manual over to the auto for these exact reasons.
Only thing i like about the manual is i can shift when I want to, but thats also the thing i hate the most about it, is shifting all the damn time.
you will get some road racers and die hard manual fans on here screaming about slush boxes. but a good auto with a good shift kit, tq convertor and set up will beat the manual in almost all conditions.

If I wanted a drag racing car, I would buy a Camaro, of a Mustang. The Corvette was made for lateral g's, and a road course (just my own opinion). If I had had a choice, I never would have bought an auto Corvette....especially a C5, but you can't control when good deals come around. I love everything about a manual transmission. I love shifting, I love being in control what gear I am in, and it's the only way to go if you are going to do anything other than drive in a straight line
Wait...I'm a wussie for wanting to have a manual instead of an automatic?????? I don't know about where you are from, but around here, having a 6 speed doesn't make you a wussie. Ask any female Corvette driver (and there are ALOT of them here in Phoenix) what kind of transmission they wanted for their Corvete and I bet 99% will say they want an Automatic because they either can't drive a 6 speed....or they would rather be able to talk on their cell phone and not have to worry about shifting.

I had a local GM tech do this swap for me. Price was very reasonable, I thought, at $2500 for labor. Trading in the car for an M6 was not an option in my mind due to the hit I would have taken on the trade-in. Some pics were posted at http://www.crossedflags.com/nuke/htm...wtopic&t=16112.
Having a 6 speed definately gives you greater control through the turns. It is a lot more fun to drive. Got everthing I needed from Gene's Kar Shop, PCM tuning was done by JR at Team ZR1. Don't listen to all the negative crap people will throw at you about this swap. It was straight forward, Bill had all the work completed in just a couple of days(btw, the $2500 included the other work he did for me). Bottom line- IT IS YOUR CAR - DO WHATEVER YOU WANT TO DO. Good luck and enjoy the car, don't save it for the next guy!!!
