I have a 01 Z06 that has treated me well. Last night I parked in the garage, turned out the Headlights, and the left one closed ok. But at the closed position the motor kept running with the horrible sound of gears stripping. Still works fine, and closes, but the noise is still there. This thing gave no indication it was goint to fail. Do I need a new gear, or is there something else I can try. I thought there was a TSB out on this but I have not been able to find it. I have a trip comming up soon, so I need some help quickly. Thanks in advance ya'll. PROTECT THE TROOPS
I had the same thing happen and bought one of those brass gears from that guy. It worked great. It took a little while to get the motor out of the car but it was easy to replace the gear.
I have been replacing my headlight gear with a brass one this morning. I just glued the cove back on and I am going to give it an hour or so to dry. The toughest part so far was prying the cover off without breaking it. One thing I noticed is there were no 10mm nuts on the rear on the rear of the headlight frame (toward the rear) This made it much easier to remove the headlight frame, but it also made me scratch my head. The nylon gear I took out did not have but one or two broken teeth, but I suspect the teeth were worn down and slipping.
