Default My 01 Coupe rebuild progress at SDRE- WOW!!!

I was very sad when I totalled my coupe back in December after veering off the road and stuffing it into a ditch when a deer decided to play chicken with me. It wasnt long afterwards when Shirl Dickey came to the rescue, in more ways than one, to resurrect and improve my beast. Prior to this event Shirl had just completed building me a 436 solid roller motor that he was just about to crate up and send me. Then when I wrecked the car, we talked, and I decided to buy it back from the insurance co, and let Shirl exact his C5 prowess on it. You see, Shirl not only builds the baddest-asssed LSx motors, but he also specializes in ressurecting totalled/salvaged C5s back to their former selves. In fact, when he is done with them, the cars look better than new. He's even done a lot of customizing such as converting Coupes to FRC Targa roofs, FRCs to Coupes, etc. Beautiful work. Nothing sweeter than a ZO6 with a Targa top. Anyway, he's had the car since early March (he actually trailered up here to Oregon to take it back to Arizona!!) and has been working on the car ever since, as money has allowed. Attached are a couple pics of the car to give a clue how the custom paint will look. The color is 2005 Nissan 350Z Daytona Blue Metallic; note the hint of purple!! I've asked Shirl to send me more pics of the car and motor. Anyway, here's what the car will be when done:

2001 C5 Coupe, ACI Radical High Rise hood and chin spoiler all sprayed in Daytona Blue Metallic, stock black interior, 5 point roll cage w/ dual cage mounted nitrous bottles, 4" custom tubbed rear wheel houses, 19x13 rear, 18x9 front HRE541 wheels with 345/35/19 Scuderia's rear/265/45/18 fronts, Shirl's proprietary-built 436 solid roller resleeved LS1 at 11.1:1 CR, secret grind cam (I will say that duration is >260, lift >.650, overlap is tight!), custom direct port 300hp nitrous with stand alone fuel system, Racetronix intank fuel pump upgrade + custom fuel lines and fuel rails/regulator at motor, external engine oil cooler, Exedy dual disc clutch, 4.10 rear end with both hardened output shafts, Kooks 1.875" exhaust, no cats, Stingers, A pillar gauge pod and other pods with engine fuel gauge, nitrous fuel system fuel gauge, nitrous pressure gauge, Wide Band Commander O2 gauge, custom nitrous electronics, Euro tail lights, HID headlights. Top it off with my Speed Density tuning, then its to the track on ET Streets to get my 9 sec slip. I wont be able to go get the car until September due to my own backlog of customer's cars to work on here. Here's pics:

Shirl took these pics last week. He's got most of the car painted now, I believe. I will post more pics once he sends them to me. I really want to thank Shirl for the incredible work he's performed thus far, and look forward to visiting him and his wife in September when I go pick up the car!! Anyone want to venture a guess what kind of power that crazy motor is gonna make (just motor)?!?!?!

It sounds like Shirl is building you a real BEAST! My guess would be 600+ to the wheels pretty easily! It'll be something once you put the spray to it! Drive Safely!

Hey RJ; somehow, the wreck escaped my notice. Glad you're not hurt and more than glad that Shirl is building your car as well as your engine. I know what my engine is putting out with a conservative setup: your's should be amazing. Looking forward to your posts.

Regards.

Cool!

Is that a 1gallon fuel cell or just a big box in the right rear cargo corner?

Hey Doc! (Speed Dog)- yah, I have been very excited about my own setup particularly since you reported your new #'s. How has your car been driving lately anyway?!?! Nice to hear from you...

JoeyG- yes, that might be the 1 gal JAZ fuel cell sitting back there, but that is not where it will go. I will likely place it where the battery resides, then move the battery to the rear of the car (or maybe to the nose of the car, hung upside down).

Shirl has the rear decklid quarter panels and rear bumper painted and mounted. He's sending me pics tonight, I will post.

I have before and after pics to post but this site only allows you to upload 3 new pics a day?! Plus you have to wait for the pics to be approved. So it'll be a day or two before I can post really awesome side by side before and after pics. Amazing what Shirl can do.

Hi RJ; glad your project is coming along.

My car is running great! It's a whole new world with this engine. It's about as streetable as one of these monsters can be and absolutely pulls like a train. I've driven it more in the last couple of months than I have in the past two years. Sure is nice when a plan comes together.

I'm looking forward to your pictures.
