Default LS1 Head/Cam

I'm looking to build an LS1 in a 2003 C5 M6. Considering AFR 205s, Comp 224/228 113LSA and LTs. Would that likely get me 410-420rwhp? Any suggestions. Thanks.

If you do all the supporting bolt-ons, sure you can hit those numbers.. I would do the Tony Mamo cam though. 224/228 114+1. I cannot remember what the lift numbers are, but AFR has them on the shelf and know what to send. If you want a little more HP get the 205s milled right from AFR (62 or 61 CCs). If you use the cam (and head gaskets) that Tony recommends you will not need to fly-cut your pistons.

Good Luck,

Thanks for the advice guys. I was thinking of doing slightly more on the cam but didn't know which one to go with. I'm going to take the advice here and call Tony. Would the G5X3 be a step up from the 224/228? Will I need to do an intake and/or an aftermarket TB. These probably seem like dumb questions but I haven't done a motor in a long time.

Yupper the G5X3 cam is a step (or 4) above the 224/228 cam. Actually I am installing a G5X3 and a set of 205-AFRs tomorrow for a friend.

If you have a LS6 intake stick with it. Get a ported TB if you do not have one. Get an UD pulley if you don't that. Once again call Tony at AFR. I am sure you will hit your goal with the package he recommends... probably somethign like 61 or 62cc chamber size and his 224/228 cam.

Yea the G5X3 is a pretty big cam...WIth a good tune it will be fine on the street but without a good tune it'll be like trying to drive a race car--not good in stop and go traffic.

I'm planning to go with either the F13 or G5X3 (or maybe G5X4, we'll see) and AFR205's pretty soon.

I have basically the package you’re thinking about doing. I have the 224/228 114+1. I had the heads milled to 59cc’s. I’m using the LS6 intake, UD pulley etc. Through the cats and 410 gears (MN6) it put down 444RWHP. I’m very happy with the performance and drivability.

444rwhp is great!. I looked at your sig. and noticed you are on TPIS headers. I guess they did the job for you. Do you run them into an X? I'm really looking forward to a build on this LS1. I sold a beautifull black 02 coupe M6 and tried an 03 Cobra for about 7 mos. and came to hate the car. Too uncomfortable and many FI issues. Corvette is the one. Um back!

Welcome back to Corvette ownership!

Yes, I’m using the TPIS headers. As you said; they did the job for me. I’ve have them for a while (pre heads and cam). I think there are better options on the market now as far as headers are concerned. I’m running the Random Tech cats and an X pipe.

I think you will also need to upgrade the stock clutch if you haven’t already done so. 410 gears are also highly recommended.

Good luck. PM me if you have any specific questions.

Can you get any traction with 450 rwhp and 4:10's? Im considering doing 4:10 or 3:90's but traction concerns me...

Yeah, you're right about the clutch. Never even gave that aspect a thought. What is good one?
