I thinking about a cam after I get headers and the main thing I want is a nice lopey cam. I have listened to many sound clips and love that sound. What is the main thing on a cam for it to have a nice lope. Is it the Lsa, say a 112 or a 114 that gives it or is it mainly the bigger cams. Would say a G5-X1 on a 114 have the same sound as a X3 just not as much power. Mine is not a daily driver but I wouldn't want it to be a pita to drive around town either. I have a 01 coupe 6spd, the only mods now are Ghl bullets and Halltech stinger. Also, what might be rwhp with say Lg Lt's with a X1, X2, or X3 with stock heads. The HP thing really isn't as big a thing with me as just having a really nice, or should I say badazz sound to it. I know a good tune is very important for the streetabilty. A lot of questions I know, but this is the place to get the answers. Thanks
Here is a good real world description of what to expect. http://ls1howto.com/index.php?article=23
If you arent overly concerned with hp gains, I would stick with a 114lsa. You will still get the nice chop you are looking for without the driveability issues. Dont only look at LG because they are very expensive (a lot of focus around maximum horsepower). Call the guys at Futral motorsports, 21st Century MuscleCars, and thunder racing as well. I was thinking about a 224/228 114 21stMC grind (good for around 40-45rwhp), which would have a real nice lope to it. Call around and see what advice the vendors can give you about the goal of your setup.
The shorter the lsa the lopier the idle,112 good 118bad.if you only want a lopey idle jam the G.M asa cam in there. It will be easy on valve springs,Idle like a funny car and be easy on maintanence. The asa cam is not your # 1 for H.p. though.
